To Clarify

We had our candidates forum in Orleans County last night. A "local paper" (it is located in Genesee County, but they cover Orleans for some reason) decided that they were going to cover this event. The reporter manufactured a statement made by a candidate --- a Democrat --- regarding working with the state. The candidate in question said that we should be working with the state instead of making enemies.

So what did the reporter do? He wrote in today's paper that the candidate OPPOSES Governor Spitzer's plan! This candidate never said that (I was there, I took notes and even tried to record some of it with my camera - before my batteries died).

Of course, it has been suspected for some time that this reporter is a Republican operative of the worst kind... but that's purely speculation.

i actually emailed azi about it (4.00 / 1)

and he wrote back that it was a mistake. i don't have any reason to believe otherwise. i just wanted to get this out there as i got another email asking me about it.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

and you say at the end "Well done Louise", if I'm not mistaken. Maybe they took that as that's how you would like her cooked for "not supporting" SCHIP...

that he got it wrong, why hasn't the story been formally corrected?

Would it really be all that difficult for someone at the Observer to tack on a little bracketed correction right after the blatantly wrong assertion?

to issue a correction. Or, better yet, correct the statement that he attached with the link when the link actually contradicts what the author wrote!
