that Diaz was one of the comparatively few legislators who was a backer of the original Spitzer plan (pre-Chertoff version), while most other elected Democrats were running for the hills or criticizing the plan outright.

Let's face it:  the number of Dems in the lege who are genuine progressive reformers can probably be counted on one's fingers.  It may not be fashionable to say it, but politics really is about the art of the possible, building coalitions and making compromises when necessary.

Spitzer's biggest flaw is that he hasn't seemed to grasp that quite yet.  We, too, need to be aware of this if we want Albany to pay heed to what this site has to say.

Diaz's biggest flaw is that he's a bigoted shitbag. He could endorse hot and cold running water for all I care, and still taint it by association.

The last thing I want to hear about in the world is Ruben Diaz feeling betrayed. The one bright spot in the entire debacle is that it made Diaz unhappy.
