| Insufferable racist Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi is heeding the call of his infamous porch (and wads of K street cash) and is retiring his Senate seat. Looks like he'll retire before the end of this year to speed his entry into big bucks lobbying and may even announce as soon as today. This means that insufferable racist (and notorious turkey-necked freak) Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour will appoint yet another insufferable racist to replace him for the next year. In 2008, there will then be a special election to fill out the remainder of Lott's term, which ends in 2012, so the good folks of MS will get to elect their next insufferable racist Senator all on their own. While the exactly reason Lott is stepping down before he finishes his term is unknown, the general speculation is that a quick departure immunizes Lott against tougher restrictions in a new lobbying law that takes effect at the end of the year. That law would require Senators to wait two-years before entering the lucrative world of lobbying Congress
Time to cash in, apparently.
