SD-25: Let's Look At The Numbers

by: phillip anderson

Fri Jan 18, 2008 at 14:49:03 PM EST

Take a look at these cash on hand numbers:

Dan Squadron: $188,882.00

Marty Connor (I):  -$40,079.69

Insert all the usual caveats about New York, incumbency and all the rest here. Blah, blah, blah. The fact remains that Connor is $40K in the hole and Squadron has got almost $200K on hand.

There's a real race here.

is Connor running for reelection? (0.00 / 0)
maybe he plans to step down

Well, Given These (0.00 / 0)
anemic numbers he just put up, somebody really needs to pin him down on this.  One would certainly have thought that he would at least have retired his campaign debt by now, though any osrt of announcement that he's stepping down would make that task even more difficult.

Woah... (0.00 / 0)
How does a sitting incumbent state senator get that much in debt... BEFORE campaigning?

Wow.

How did (0.00 / 0)
Marty do in 2006?  If I recall he had a expensive primary but forget how close it was.  I know it was not as close as the Sabini one.

[ Parent ]
Not as Close (0.00 / 0)
but definitely not a blowout, either.  Connor beat Ken Diamondstone 55% to 45%.  (Sabini defeated Hiram Monserrate 51-49.)

Connor spent $252K all told in 2006, but only $30K of that sum on the general election.  Diamondstone, for what it's worth, spent $636K in defeat on his primary bid, so perhaps we'll be looking at roughly similar figures this time around.

Nice numbers research The Maven! (0.00 / 0)
A primary in a one party district like these will always result in the big bucks spent as the primary victory is tantamount to victory!

these races are the sad ones to see (0.00 / 0)
two progressives trying to hold the seat.

you'd be hard pressed to find the definition (4.00 / 1)
under which Conner counts as a progressive

connor is my senator (0.00 / 0)
he's not horrible, but he hardly a "progressive" either. that said, i've only met squadron once, a couple of weeks ago. he seems like a fine guy and all, but i don't really know enough to label him as a progressive either. i'm curious and hopeful about that, but, as it stands, i can't really say one way or the other.

there may be a progressive in this race, but it's certainly not marty.

TODAY is day one. It always is.
