"Raise New York", a Blograiser For Craig Johnson With Governor Eliot Spitzer

by: phillip anderson

Thu Jan 18, 2007 at 11:54:07 AM EST

FINALLY...

Here we go!

We are very, very excited to announce "Raise New York", a "blograiser" for SSD-07 candidate Craig Johnson featuring Governor Eliot Spitzer! And when I say "we", I am referring to, amongst many others, The Daily Gotham, Rochester Turning, Democracy In Albany, onNYTurf, WNYMedia.net, Swing State Project and, of course, us here at TAP.

Raise New York will take place on Thursday, February 1st at Prey in NYC. The event will also be liveblogged here and at Daily Gotham and DailyKos. There will be photos, audio and video in near real time for those who for whatever reason can't attend in person. It's gonna be a hoot.

What is so exciting about this event for me is that, besides raising some much needed money for Craig Johnson, it represents a real opportunity for partnership building between the progressive net/grassroots and a state Dem Party establishment  that hasn't always been so interested in such things. There exists some very real potential for some mending of fences and and some trust building amongst all these groups as they fight for a common goal, namely reforming our joke of a state government.

The very nature of how this event came about is unprecedented as far as I can tell. This has never been done, or done in this way, ever before.

It also represents something potentially very special for the progressive NY blogosphere. It's a demonstration that we can and will work together towards that common goal when we choose to do so. That's never happened before and these new relationships could turn into something pretty freaking amazing. In fact, this may be what I find  most exciting.

So please join us for this amazing event! Join us in person or online and let's do all we can to make ol' Joe Bruno's majority one seat more tenuous.

Blogging with Spitzer and Johnson.  Good show, fellas!

Bravo! (4.00 / 1)
Sounds like a grand old time!

Very interesting (4.00 / 1)
A convergence of the traditional political party structure and new netroots and grassroots activism. This is an interesting and exciting development.

Get this to me in email format and I'll broadcast it out to a wider audience.

i'm pretty freakin' jazzed about this thing. (4.00 / 1)
i really think that this could be the beginning of something significant for the long term. the relationships being built between the NY progressive blogosphere as well as the relationships between that community and the state party establishment could very well be something really amazing.

maybe some stuff really did change a few weeks back.

we'll see.

forward!

TODAY is day one. It always is.

The missing piece here is getting feet-on-the-ground grassroots groups involved as well. If we are going to truly leverage the new and growing progressive activist community then we need to complete the circle and draw in groups such as Democracy for New York and all it's local components across the state. We'd be happy to assist but... we ain't gonna crash someone elses party without an invitation.

about 25 balls in the air here. it's comin'...

consider this an invitation to DFNY and everyone else (0.00 / 0)
it's a big bandwagon with plenty of room. this goes for EVERYONE. we'd love to have all of you and are more than happy to add you as "sponsoring orgs"

all these banner ads and graphics are free for the taking. part of the plan from the get go was to roll this out and bring on board other interested parties.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

[ Parent ]
Oh, they're on board... (0.00 / 0)
...check the sponsors list, and there are more. That doesn't mean we don't want more; shoot me an email at mbouldin - at - newdemmajority - dot - org if you'd like to be a part of this.

Lipris is right, this is truly exciting. On Day One, everything did change.

Is It Just Me? (0.00 / 0)
Maybe I'm just getting older, but I can't for the life of me read most of the names of the sponsors of hosts, since the image of the poster/flyer has been so reduced.  And clicking on the image takes me directly to the contributions page, so I can't make any judgment for myself regarding who's really behind this.

I presume that this is unintentional, and not something where the information is deliberately being withheld from us non-insiders.

Much Better (4.00 / 1)
Thanks!

See also my rather grouchy -- and hopefully unjustified -- comment over at dKos.  I want to be wrong about my misgivings, but I've learned to be leery over the years.  As Ronald Reagan (!?!?), among others, said, "Trust, but verify."

Is there a printer friendly version? (0.00 / 0)
I might want to hand out a couple fliers to people I know.

[ Parent ]
Yes, there should be one coming! (4.00 / 1)

DFNYC is on board (0.00 / 0)
but me and the rest of the statewide coalition, DFNY, are just learning about this.

I know it came together quickly and I don't mean to sound down at all. This is very good stuff. I just need some material to work with in order to get the rest of our statewide coalition on board. DFNYC is just one piece of what we have to offer. I don't even see the Long Island groups on the list.

Blog Raiser for Johnson (4.00 / 3)
Make absolutely sure that potential Democratic Senate candidates in the 4th, 11th, 15th & 40th Senate districts get an invite.  Let them know how much support they can expect if they decide to run against the Republican incumbants in those seats....

Speaking of the 11th district (4.00 / 1)
I thought it was pathetic how our last candidate got ZERO party support (kinda like NYBri).  Maybe we can convince her to run again and not make the same mistake again, or fill the void with netroots support.  Her website is still up: http://www.noramarin...

is there a pdf or Word version of the flyer that we can download?

Cynicism (0.00 / 0)
Maybe I don't understand the idea behind the event, but I'm a bit underwhelmed.

The NY Democratic party is going to hold a fund-raiser on February 1. Bloggers will be specially invited, and they will be liveblogging for those of us who can't make it.

While I understand this event is significant in that it shows the party institution reaching out to activists, can someone enlighten me as to why it's so special?

bloggers are having a fundraiser and the state dems are specially invited and they have RSVP'd, so to speak.

Or more to the point (4.00 / 1)
...we're doing something together, kind of as equals. That's the exciting part. I'm sure there's people on their side with misgivings and some apprehension of the unknown, but it's a leap of faith on both our parts.

[ Parent ]
thanks for putting it better than i could (4.00 / 1)
my brain don't work so good tonight.

oh, and FANTASTIC freakin' job on the graphics for this thing.

a round of applause for bouldin, everybody!

OK (4.00 / 1)
Those ARE sweet graphics.

And now I get it. Hopefully, this is a harbinger of times to come.

i want to win this seat and all, but the long term potential here is what really has me so excited.

Nassau Dems? Hempstead Dems? (0.00 / 0)
Where oh where are the Nassau Dems on this? Money? Support?
What about the Hempstead Dems? It seems as if the whole state is supporting this election more than the local crew. How disappointing

Nice work! (4.00 / 2)
"Beam me up, Captain, we have located the intelligent political life in New York."

You who organized this definitely get this week's prize for making the future happen today.  On day one.... some of us will have waited too long for change.  The sooner, the better.

A Long-Term Strategic Commitment (4.00 / 3)
I want to thank all our partners in this initial effort between the netroots and the New York Democratic Party.

It is amazing to see how many people from a range of organizations are excited about this event!

This is the Party's initial foray into the blogging world, and we see limitless potential to work with all of you in the future.

I look forward to partnering with you on this and many other projects as we build a Democratic Party that you will all be proud to call your home!

Thanks, see you on the blogs and see you on February 1st!

Welcome to our humble abode... (0.00 / 0)

When we see a new blog called, "The Gov" is when i know we will have arrived.

We've got some work ahead of us.

Appreciate the enthusiasm! (0.00 / 0)
Glad you see how the potential of these new communicative channels could help make a more dynamic political party, with more opportunities for engagement and input.

blograiser announcement (0.00 / 0)
In the interest of literacy and education, it would be terrific if the materials from formal announcements were punctuated correctly. I.e., for the blograiser announcement: except in *rare* circumstances, commas go *inside* quotation marks (i.e., "Raise New York", should be "Raise New York,"). As described in the book "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves," comma placement can have a *dramatic* influence on meaning, and it'd be great if we could  keep an eye on it. (Remove the first comma in the book title, and you'll see.)
