Is Maureen O'Connell Ducking A Debate?

The Politicker is reporting that Maureen O'Connell, the Republican candidate for state Senate in District 7, might be ducking an appearance at a League of Women Voters candidate forum with Democratic candidate Craig Johnson tonight out in Nassau County.

It's still unclear whether Republican Maureen O'Connell will participate in scheduled candidate forum tonight along with Democrat Craig Johnson.
The event is supposed to start at 7 p.m. in Manhasset, hosted by the League of Women Voters. The organization's Nassau office of said that both candidates were invited and as of this morning, only Johnson has confirmed. I called O'Connell's campaign and asked if they'll be there. I'm still waiting for the answer.

Is Maureen bailing on this?

but, someone added this in the comments over at the politicker:

she cancelled all debates because she did so poorly on the news 12 debate.

anyone know anything about this?

O'Connell can't make up her mind (4.00 / 2)

First there were going to be multiple debates. Then Johnson won the first debate hands down and O'Connell said she was skipping the rest of the debates. Now, with Johnson having the momentum, I've heard she's changing her mind again and will show up to this debate.

Hopefully she'll show up and he'll be able to blow her out of the water again.

The debate's put on by the league of women voters, while O'Connell has been straining to keep her mouth shut about her extremist anti-choice views, even if these have been used in commercials. At a debatem she would be asked about them, forcing her either to lie ("No, I am not a borderline Operation Rescue case") or tell the truth ("I want to jail the baby-killers"). In the prior case, she'd have to explain the flip-flop, probably at length and feeding that controversy, in the latter, she could just go home now.

O'Connell has nothing to gain by this debate. Which is why she's chickening out of it.

But not so fast, the New York State Right to Life Committee is criticizing her flip-flopping, so she's already being forced to explain herself.
