The Sun is reporting that Denny Farrell has quite a tangled web of campaign finances:
Over election cycles, Mr. Farrell opened new accounts without closing old ones. State law prohibits him from deactivating committees that fail to show a zero balance.
The result is what one aide to the lawmaker called a "multi-headed hydra" of accounts: Farrell 02, Farrell 04, Farrell 06, Farrell 08, Committee for H.D.F., and Manhattan Connection, a political action committee.
I don't think there is any evidence of illegality on behalf of Farrell, but this does illustrate the lax rules and enforcement of campaign finance in Albany. Having 6 different campaign committees being legal is just another one of those stories that makes Albany look rediculous, and also doesn't exactly help the Democratic brand in NY when it involves one of our very powerful Democrats.
