It's Infrastructure Time

No, not that infrastructure.

I'm talking about our Democratic infrastructure.  If we are going to take our country back this November, we all need to step up to the plate in whatever way we can.

Nothing beats volunteering our time and energy, but for many of us folks doing the 9-to-5 thing, donating money also allows us to make a difference without having to move our collective tuckases out of our chairs.  Please consider giving to or volunteering for one or more of the following organizations/campaigns:

First, there is BarackObama.com.  While you're there, you can donate money,
phonebank, or drop Hillary a "thank you."

Then there's the DNC.  The national party is the only area where the Republicans have any cash advantage over us.  You can donate, or even better, you can purchase a democracy bond, where you give a recurring contribution every month.  While you're there, you can also participate in one of the most innovative grassroots strategies in a long time.  It's called the Neighborhood Volunteer Program; essentially, they send you a list of 25 targeted voters in your area and between now and election day, you visit each one of them three times.  Studies show this is a very effective way to reach people.  For New York, this doesn't really matter on the Presidential level, but for those of you living in  one of our closely contested NY Senate districts, this can be the difference between a Democratic and Republican Senate next year. And finally, don't forget to join Partybuilder.

Finally, on the national level, you can donate money to the DCCC or the DSCC. And definitely don't forget to contribute to Jon Powers, Eric Massa, and Dan Maffei through Actublue, right through the banner on the left side of our own Albany Project!

On the State level, we are incredibly close to overthrowing the Republican stranglehold on our legislature.  You can donate to or volunteer  for the New York State Senate Democratic Campaign.

Ourside of party organizations, there are independent organizations helping Democrats everywhere, to which you can also support.  One great example is MoveOn.  They are important because while is seems like Obama is going to run a mostly positive campaign, MoveOn has no qualms about running devastating attack ads against McCain over the television airwaves.  On top of that, MoveOn will give you a free Obama bumper sticker.

Other great independent organizations are Democracy for America and VoteVets.

And finally, if you really have a lot of cash on hand, you can consider donating to one of the State Democratic Parties of swing states.  Some examples are Ohio, Colorado, or Virginia

Can we make a Democratic landslide this November?  Yes.  We.  Can.

Well written. Democrats: it is time to get to work!!! (4.00 / 2)

Here's to hoping we have a landslide on all levels of the ballot!

A great summary (4.00 / 4)
But don't forget petitions!  Right now is petition season, and we have to do the work of knocking on doors to get enough signatures to get good candidates on the ballot.  We had a "petition party" in Livingston County yesterday (in the town of Avon) and got more than 100 signatures for Jon Powers.  Not only does this help get him on the ballot, it gets his name out there in a very effective way: here are people willing to go out in the 90+ degree heat and pound the pavement for this guy. My red and sweaty face(lovely) convinced at least one initially hostile person to slow down and listen to me.

It was very very hot yesterday (4.00 / 3)
I almost think that the heat made people more receptive and way more sympathetic. It made it a bit easier to ask for 5 signatures when they saw the red sweaty body's at the door holding the wilting clipboard full of petitions. They also had just watched Hillary's historic speech as I was making the rounds yesterday and that spurred political conversation which helped with the ask.

I was out in my district on Friday afternoon (yeah it was hot Friday, too) and a lovely older woman set me up with iced cranberry juice in a mason jar to take along.

I also noticed that I was getting invited in way more than normal door knocking.

I find people are generally very, very good.

Note to self -- wear the sunblock.

Holy Cow was it ever hot yesterday! (4.00 / 2)
I'm with you on this!!!!!  I was carrying petitions for Don Barber yesterday as were others around the County.  We are trying folks to send a fantastic candidate to the NY Senate.

OK! (4.00 / 1)
So, I confess: I had other work to do, but was supposed to drop by my neighbor and fellow-committeemembers' house to pick up my petitions and lists, and was just too hot to do it.  Will get them today and start making rounds.  In my 'hood, you go by car, and keep your fingers crossed you don't run into DOGS that are feeling ornery from the heat!

While I donate to the DNC for love of Howard Dean and the fifty state (0.00 / 0)
project. I do not donate directly to the DCCC and the DSCC.  I have a bitter taste left in my mouth from Rham Emanuals time dumping progressives for DINO's and not giving enough to other prograssive challengers back in 2006. Chuck has done this at times though not as badly at DSCC. I imstead create my own ActBlue page and donate through there to Democratic challengers in both houses who i feel will make a difference. To do this in fairness one must really read up on these candidates, follow Natioanl and local blogs like The Senate Guru, Swing State Project and The Albany Project. But this way you get the money directly to the real good guys!

I agree with you in one sense (0.00 / 0)
Rahmbo did piss me off at times during the last elections.  However, that money basically goes to fund negative ads towards Republicans more than anything else- that can def be a worthy cause.

I kinda think Chuck (0.00 / 0)
has no choice at DSCC. You're not beating Conrad Burns or George Allen with a progressive. The important thing was getting to 51. Now the important thing is getting to 60. Yes, you'll never actually have your 60 on board when you do this, but its better than being stuck at 44.

[ Parent ]
Why not? (0.00 / 0)
Schweitzer's progressive, so progressives can win in places that have elected conservative Republicans, like Montana.

The argument that you need to run conervative Dems before you can run progressive Dems is a trap because there's always a new milestone you need to hit. First you need 51 senators, then you need 60 senators, then you need 60+ because the conservative Dems you ran are starting to defect. It's a self-defeating proposition. Run people you want to see win, end of story.
