The Albany Project Makes the New York Daily News

This is nice:

Gov. Spitzer drew GOP fire last week when he told Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco, "I'm a [expletive] steamroller, and I'll roll over you." Appearing at a fund-raiser for State Senate candidate Craig Johnson, Spitzer quipped, "It's amazing how quoting a little James Taylor can get you in trouble. [Taylor's 'Steamroller Blues'] is such nice, placid music." The Albany Project event raised $60,000.

I actually thought that the blograiser raised $100,000, but I would welcome a correction on that.

Anyway, I thought would say how proud I am to be associated with the people running this blog.  These guys are in it to do some real good -- to reform a State government that is dysfunctional and has lost touch with the people.  And they're doing it using the netroots -- a vehicle that harnesses "people power."  Yesterday's victory in the special election shows how powerful these netroots efforts can be when they're recognized and supported by people like Dave Pollak, the Co-chair of the New York State Democratic party.

Take a bow, Lipris, NYBri, and AM.  You deserve it.

Great event. (4.00 / 3)
Glad we could do our part in bringing about real reform. Next up? Silver needs to know we mean business. We are the people and the old secret selfserving SOP that has been the hallmark of Albany for decades will no longer be tolerated.

He and the Assembly are on the wrong side of the Comptroller issue. THey made a dea..now abide by it.

Today, everything is different. Jow Bruno knows it. Does Shelly Silver?

We've got some work ahead of us.

The Question Is (0.00 / 0)
How does this actually play out over the next few months and as we look ahead to the 2008 election cycle?  I've expressed my concerns on several occasions that all this attention over the past few weeks may have been little more than lip-service in an attempt to buy the silence and acquiescence of the real reform movement in the grass- and netroots.  Lipris (among others) has been cautiously optimistic, and I know I'm not alone in having these concerns.

Now comes the time for the state party establishment to prove that they're genuinely committed to the goals that we share, and not merely to electoral success and power in Albany.  It will also be important to keep close tabs on Sen. Johnson, to ensure that he personally stays the course of reform and not becomes Gov. Spitzer's lap dog in the Senate.

Legitimate concerns (4.00 / 1)
however... the netroots will not remain silent. Couldn't be done even if we wanted it done. There is far too much work to be done.

The cats out of the bag in regard to reform. Far too many people know about the problems now and far too many people are keeping a close watch on whether peoples actions match their words. This is the role we can play far better then the traditional media.

The pressure is all on the Gov and the State Legislature now. All of them. Not just Silver and Bruno. Back benchers have to make it clear to their leadership that their jobs depend on real reform getting done. We need to make sure back benchers understand that.

It is time for real change in Albany.

I guess its something.  But that link on top of the blog roll on the Daily Kos, now that is impressive.

keep up the good work.  It appears Mr. Silver hasn't quite come around to the new way of thinking quite yet.
