"John Bonacic is going nowhere.''

by: am

Wed Feb 07, 2007 at 10:57:14 AM EST

Yet another gracious statement ( via Times Union Capital Connection) from the Senate Majority Leader. I bet these guys are thrilled to be working for Bruno right about now. He also had this to say about about Sen. Robach, "He's staying a Republican for the rest of this life"

Well, that just means we will have to win the Senate Majority by electing good, progressive, reform Democrats! Explanation on the flip:

am :: "John Bonacic is going nowhere.''
Lipris wrote the other day that Senate Minority Leader Smith indicated that 2 GOP Senators may be induced to switch parties.

A lot of us have been working very hard to see real  change come to Albany, and we are not interested in seeing the same old dyfunctional enablers that got us into the mess we are in here in NY, get an easy pass to move over into the new majority and have a "leadership" role. They so clearly do not deserve it based on their years of disservice to the people of New York. Bruno and his teammates are on notice. Its time for them to retire (if not go to jail as we expect those under FBI Investigation). Please listen to Senator Lachman's comments On Party Switching and JOIN us for our book club with him as he chats with us about his book "Three Men in a Room"  on TAP, MONDAY.

New vision, new idears.

I agree completely. As nice as it would be to see Joe Bruno's tenure as "Boss" Senate end I would much rather see new people elected to the legislature. The incumbency protection plan has got to end and the old legislators aren't going to do it. We need people committed to reform to get elected to the Senate.

has an interest post on potential party switchers

On one subject of immediate speculation -- the possibility of partisan defections -- Maltese said he spoke with John Bonacic and Joe Robach, two GOP state senators who, like him, are rumored to be considering a party switch that would hand control of the Senate to the Democrats.

"I spoke with both of them last night," Maltese said, "and both of them told me it's total baloney and they're not interested in switching parties."

So, seems like Bush lost Maureen's election (0.00 / 0)
I hope Maltese reflects his party's true belief that Maureen lost her election last night because of George Bush and the Iraq war. Maybe they will think twice about supporting war mongers in the future. But even more importantly they don't get what's happening and what is really important to the voters.

On Bonacic (0.00 / 0)
I don't know a whole lot about Robach, but I'd be very, VERY surprised to see Bonacic switch parties.  In fact, the only Republican senator I WOULD NOT have been surprised to see switch parties (in fact, I'd be surprised if he didn't, had things turned out differently), was FORMER Sen. Nick Spano.

Bonacic being a Republican (but a "liberal" Republican, if you will - I use that term loosely, however) helps him in that district.  With the exception of the New Paltz pocket, that district is pretty solidly conservative.

However, I am also surprised that we haven't seen a strong opponent (a la Andrea Stewart-Cousins, David Valesky, or Craig Johnson) face him yet, seeing as there are a lot of "liberal" pockets in that district, and they continue to grow in size.

Susan Zimet was supposed to be pretty good... (0.00 / 0)
Eliot Spitzer even appeared in an ad for her.
