Supreme Court strikes down 'millionaire's amendment'

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court has struck down the "millionaire's amendment" as an unfair way to help opponents of wealthy candidates who spend from their personal fortunes.

And it was Jack Davis who brought the suit to the court.

Jon Powers is running for Congress in NY-26 in a primary against Davis and his is a people powered campaign. We need to support Jon and make sure Jack isn't given the opportunity to lose this seat a third time.

any idea how this will affect Gillibrand, who's opponent has already triggered the Millionaire's Amendment months ago?

Gillibrand never officially was covered.... (4.00 / 1)

Gillibrand's opponent was funding himself money to be spent immediatly. Officially, and this is semantics but is important, until petition filing, until Treadwell is the only Republican to file, he is considered to be running in a primary.

What that means is that the Millionaire's amendment at the present time only applied to the primary, and not to the general, because it was money to be spent immediately.

Therefore, Gillibrand to date has not had the right to raise more than $2300 per person. Only someone preparing to run in a Republican Primary was. She was due to be eligible to start raising $6900 per person on Friday, July 11th. Now, she will not be.

She's raised 2.4 Million Dollars without it, so I'm not worried.

I was going to post a diary on this but thank you for putting the message out. We NEED to support Jon Powers, our great grassroots candidate in NY-26, now more than ever. Jack Davis does not represent progressive interests and we don't want the guy who destroyed the millionaire's amendment coming to Congress.
