NY-20: Treadwell Submits Approximately 11,000 Signatures

I don't want to toot a Republican's horn, but this is a lot of signatures.

Sandy Treadwell has turned in over 11,000 signatures for the Republican line and an additional 728 and 1,368 signatures for the Conservative and Independent lines, respectively.

From CapCon:

Sandy Treadwell wants you to know people really, really, really like him. The candidate needed 1,250 signatures from enrolled Republicans to get his name on the ballot in September. He handed in 1,295 pages of signatures, approximately 11,000 signatures. According to Treadwell's spokesman, Pete Constantakes, Republicans are excited about him and want to show their support.

That's a lot of signatures. I don't think I have seen a number that high so far with all the petitions turned in. (NOTE: As noted in the comments, NY-13's Mike McMahon got 11,000 too.)

No word yet on how many Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand received.

submit 11,000?

not that i wanna be tooting his horn either.

in any case, they are impressive numbers for a congressional race.

It is difficult to get the news from poems

Yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.

He wont get the Independent line will he? (0.00 / 0)
If he does, its a travesty because this guy is no independent.

Not bad (0.00 / 0)
Treadwell has exhibited excellent leadership skills as Secretary of state. He reformed the entire office and certainly went against his party at time.  His only hiccup burp was the STAR program. His intent was correct, but the school spending went out of control as an effect. This too, was not very conservative.

If he was in Congress (0.00 / 0)
He would just be another Sweeney like Republican who would do nothing for the district and just hang around and drink with John Boehner and Roy Blunt.

Too many Treadwell commercials (0.00 / 0)
Have you been seeing them, too?  THey started over a month ago.  They're on every day in the Albany market it seems.  Very worrisome.  And enraging.  Like the farmer guys saying "I don't think of him as politician."  What a Kool-Aid drinker!  Wasn't Treadwell Republican Party Chair in New York or something huge like that?  Ugh...

The Dems need to start running negative ads (0.00 / 0)
against him now.  Show him at the 2004 Convention hugging Bush and his numbers will go into freefall.

I'm on Gillibrand's mailing list (0.00 / 0)
Here is most of the e-mail i received today:

Thank you again for your incredible support.  Because of you, we were able to reach our financial goal for the quarter.  Also, thanks to your donation of time and sweat, we were also able to double the number of petition signatures needed on each party line.

Through your advocacy, we are in a strong position to keep this seat in November!

As America stares down an energy crisis, the only solutions the Republican leaders in Congress offer is more of the same failed energy policies of the Bush administration. We need to make a commitment to becoming a world leader in alternative energy investment, innovation and implementation. This is our generations great challenge and the next's great opportunity.

For reference, if my memory serves me correctly, Gillibrand collected around 10,000 signatures for the Dem line (I'm not sure about this number i think it was the goal) and she was subject to voter challenges for the independence petitions she submitted (she barely made the requirement before the challenges) and eventually fell just shy of the signatures required to make it onto the independence ballot.

Im not too worried about Treadwell's showing.  The burden is on challengers to show momentum, incumbents really only need to stay on the ballot which Gillibrand more than achieved.  She was even able to make the Independence ballot this time around.

In addition, so far Gillibrand has shown stellar fundraising ability for any House Representative, especially a freshman .  She is among the leaders in money raised in the House.

She is in for a challenge here but I think she can handle it.
