SD-7: Johnson Loses Indy Line to Dirty Tricks

The dirty tricks campaign worked but two important things.
1) Johnson has enough signatures for a primary.
2) Johnson won the Special Election without the "I" Line.

Overruling Nassau Chairman Bobby Kumar, the state Independence Party's executive committee is backing GOP state Senate candidate Barbara Donno against Democratic Sen. Craig Johnson.
The panel, meeting in Albany, voted 24-1 for Donno one day after Frank MacKay, state and Suffolk chairman, said he'd support Kumar, who'd petitioned for Johnson. (See previous post here).
"It was decided that this is in the best interest of the state," said MacKay, an ally of Senate Republicans who are fighting to keep a majority. "Having a government with checks and balances is more important than anything else."
Several sources say the Independence Party fears Democratic state domination would curb minor-party power by banning cross-endorsements. "I love New York City," McKay said. "But I don't want the whole state controlled by one party in New York City."

As the Times Union posted today, exactly 1 Democrat got an authorization out of the 22 that cross county lines.

Now the fact that the Vice Chair of the Independence party, Tom Connelly, works for the Senate Republican Majority has nothing to do with that, right? cus that would be wrong.

Oh, and here in Erie County, the unbelievably unqualified Dennis Delano got our IP endorsement. He frequently admits on TV that he has no idea about any issues. Really. He does. So why did they endorse? Because...

1) The State IP just declared themselves in charge of in-county endorsements in counties of over 750K people (Erie, Monroe, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and NYC)

and

2) He's a Republican. And Tom needs him.

Two things (4.00 / 1)

(1) They should not be allowed to call themselves the "Independence Party." When you back one Democrat out of a whole pool of candidates, that tells the state where your party stands. They are merely an extension of the Republican Party.

(2) I will take the WFP over the IP and Conservatives any day. They might be smaller than the other two, but at least they let you know where they stand.
