| The five-way Democratic race for the 21st Congressional District is seeing an August heat wave of forums, debates, and panels. Call them what you will, there's so many this month, in fact, one of them is going on right now and appeared almost out of nowhere...
When the relatively quixotic candidate Joseph Sullivan made this announcement on August 8th, it seemed like a somewhat eccentric solo appearance:
DEMOGUY , Joseph P Sullivan, Democrat for Congress
21st District, NY
has accepted an invitation to appear at a local Mosque
When? 5 PM Saturday 9 August
Where? The Islamic Center of the Capital District (ICCD)
21 N Lansing Drive, Colonie
This may be one of the defining moments of the contest for the
21st District.
But a media advisory from Tracey Brooks today indicates that a legitimate, multi-candidate forum is happening as we speak:
Tracey Brooks to Participate in 21st Congressional District
Democratic Candidate Forum
Who: Democratic Congressional Candidate Tracey Brooks
What: Tracey Brooks will join the other Democratic Congressional candidates at a "Meet the Candidates" Forum at the Islamic Center of the Capital District (ICCD).
The event is sponsored by the ICCD, ARISE and the Fatima Center. Mr. Liquat Husain will moderate.
Event contacts: Mr. Liaquat Husain (ICCD) at 518-424-1503. Andreas Kriefall (ARISE organizer) at 518-331-3190.
Where: Islamic Center of the Capital District, 21 Lansing Rd, Schenectady, NY 12304.
When: Saturday, August 9, Event starts at 6:00 p.m.
Just a little NY-21 fun along with an up-to-date, though not necessarily up-to-the-minute, NY-21 debate schedule below the fold... |
| As of this writing, I'm not sure if Darius Shahinfar, Phil Steck, or Paul Tonko are at the same place, "foruming" with Joe and Tracey. I do not want to call interrupt, and am honestly very tired from an afternoon of canvassing. I just haven't heard anything about debates except for these two, which I plan to attend:
It was in this week's current State of the Race we learned of a final (maybe?) forum on August 24.
A debate for the Democratic candidates in the 21st congressional district will be held on Sunday, August 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Town Hall, Delaware Avenue in Delmar. Doors will open at 4 p.m. The five Democratic candidates, Tracey Brooks, Darius Shahinfar, Phil Steck, Joe Sullivan and Paul Tonko, have all confirmed. The debate is sponsored by Democracy for the Hudson Mohawk Region (DFHMR) and supported by Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace (BNP). Co-Chairs for the event are Bruce Bushart representing Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace and Kate Powers representing Democracy for the Hudson Mohawk Region. The public and press are invited.

And, apparently, the one going on right now between Joseph Sullivan and Tracey Brooks. I think...
Sorry, folks, I would have been there if I'd known there was going to be a one-on-one face-off between these two. Sullivan himself said it would be "the defining moment in the contest," although that is in line with his own personal, if eccentric, style.
Still, I wonder if I'd be able to find the place or get there in the right time anyway: Sullivan lists the city as Colonie, but Tracey's address is for Schenectady. And Sullivan givesus a "N Lansing Drive" for the address, but Tracey's says just "Lansing Road." Finally, Sullivan wanted me there at five and Tracey at six. That's a long rebuttal...
On that note, I'm sure they both meant the same place and that there is a candidate's forum probably just now finishing up. This diary was fun to write and made up the fun I'm sure we all missed tonight. I will update if anybody asks any questions about possible making our Federal system of Zip Codes, Street Addresses, and Time Zones need a revamp. I'm sorry if this one got lost in shuffle, but I think that's what happens when you have another another candidates forum. |
