SD-7: WFP Statement On Craig Johnson

by: phillip anderson

Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 09:42:32 AM EDT

Yesterday we reported on the minor party ballot line shenanigans in SD-7, where two parties, the Working Families Party and the local Independence Party both wanted Freshman Senator Craig Jonson on their lines only to end up with Johnson off the WFP line and with challenger Barbara Donno taking the Indy line at the insistence of the state Indys. WFP chief Dan Cantor released this statement late yesterday afternoon:

"Senate Republicans used the courts to circumvent the democratic process and the will of Working Families Party members in the 7th Senate District."

"Senator Johnson has been a champion of middle and working class values, and has worked tirelessly to make sure that their issues and concerns are heard in Albany. No matter what line his name will be on in November, he will continue to have the support of the Working Families Party, and more importantly, the support of the hard-working men and women in his district."

"We have no doubt that Craig Johnson will be re elected to the State Senate."

On the web: Senator Craig Johnson.

Did anyone else find it odd... (0.00 / 0)
That they let Peter Koo back on all his lines, they let Donno have the IP line, but they didn't let Sen. Johnson back on the WFP line?

You give two Republicans back their lines, but keep the Democrat off. That's fishy, if you ask me.

Does ANYONE know (0.00 / 0)
specifically why he lost the line, i.e. what rules did his petitions break?

Nothing new here (0.00 / 0)
Back in February of 2007, when the special election was held, there were numerous cases of election fraud in the district.  A Republican judge refused to uphold the law, preferring to let the fraud go unpunished.  Fortunately, they didn't do enough to steal the election -- that time.

In 2004 (and again in 2006), there was serious election fraud in Westchester County, where Andrea Stewart-Cousins challenged Nick Spano.  The fraud worked the first time, but wasn't enough the second time.  Again, Republicans judges refused to take action to uphold the American concept of free and fair elections.

This isn't Sarasota County, FL; this is right here in New York!

This is yet another reason why we can't trust any Republican.  It's not that they're all a pack of rotten, lying vermin, but that wherever Republicans are in charge the results are ... well, what you'd expect from a pack of rotten, lying vermin.

Line (0.00 / 0)
He voted for the tax cap. As a WFP member I don't think he deserves the line anyway.
