NY-26: A Picture Is Worth A (Few Million) Words

by: robert.harding

I was sent this picture today by someone who was out canvassing for Jon Powers today.

Jack does own stock in Exxon Mobil, so I guess the sign's placement is alright.

Pathetic... (1.00 / 4)
Because who doesn't walk around with a digital camera while they canvass?

Clearly this sign has been planted. Act like a journalist, Bob. If you're going to spend your Saturday nights at home (see date and time!), make them worth your while and start a news thread with some substance and depth.

Clearly planted? (0.00 / 0)
Someone was walking and came across it. It wasn't planted, as you say.

Act like a journalist? I act like a blogger, which is what I am.

Hmm (0.00 / 0)
Mr. Davis does seem to have quite a few advocates who magically appear just to defend him or attack people who criticize him.   They all register right before said defense/attack (see date and time!).  I hope these scurrilous individuals cease popping up around the site after Davis loses the primary.  It would be aggravating if this nonsense continued through the general.

Oh, and... (0.00 / 0)
... I troll rated the comment because it was not a disagreement or alternative opinion, but rather a baseless character attack that has no place in civil discourse.

Umm, we always have digital cameras with us (4.00 / 1)
We always have a camera to take a picture of the large group that has turned out to canvass for Powers each weekend. I cover a different county, but it's perfectly plausible that someone had a camera while knocking on doors.

gas station (2.00 / 2)
pathetic --- the best part is that sign is posted in Lancster by a Davis paid person - they posted 2 signs at that gas station. it's at Broadway and Transit. i saw it and laughed before I saw it posted here.

the rest of Davis' signs are at vacant properties in lancaster... because no one really supports Davis.

Re: gas station (4.00 / 1)
If your name isn't Jack Davis, you shouldn't be using the name. Plain and simple.

Did you see Alice Kryzan's new TV ad?

Holy shit! Someone put that on the youtube!

Can she make up a huge deficit? Probably not (should have gone up 2-3 weeks ago with a positive ad) - but her new ad is an explicit appeal to women and completely rips both Powers and Davis for fighting with each other.

Basic premise:

Fake Davis and Fake Powers brawling in a park. Their literally at each others throats while screaming at each other every single charge they've leveled at each other in the past 3 months. after 15 seconds of this, Kryzan is shown 15 feet away off to the side telling the camera mocking them, expressing optimism for the future, and then giving a line, i can't remember exactly the phrasing, but telling people to move past the "boys", a clear appeal to women.

I wouldn't vote for Kryzan in this primary even if you pointed a gun to my head, but this ad is Incredible. Perfect. Fantastic.

Ad: A+
Timing: F (too late)

Good analysis (0.00 / 0)
That sure is how I feel about this campaign sometimes.  Which I know will bring a chorus of "he started it" from Powers supporters-- which I am sure he did.  But, you know, sometimes it pays to ignore that stuff and look more grown up.

Thanks (0.00 / 0)
Oooh - I forgot to mention that in the ad both Fake Powers and Fake Davis call the other a "lifelong Republican", which, of course, is true.

A few things... (0.00 / 0)
First, we shouldn't be the ones to put it on YouTube. I have dealt with many campaigns and I can't name one that DIDN'T put their ad on YouTube. I just got a call from a campaign last night that they were about go on TV but they posted their ad on YouTube for an "exclusive" look. Definitely shows a lack of tech-savvy minds in the Kryzan camp.

She can play the lifelong Democrat card all she wants but she has to answer two questions: Why did she give to Tom Reynolds in 2000 if she's such a big "lifelong Democrat" and why did she defend the companies who were responsible for Love Canal and then tout herself as an environmental attorney? I suspect she will have to answer those charges soon.

I agree on your timing grade. I have yet to see the ad, but waiting this long to finally appeal to the masses is not good. This is the first video we have seen of Kryzan (at least if you go off her YouTube page) in four months. It's one thing to be Powers or Davis, who are always being talked about and are in the media often. If you aren't getting that same attention you have to go get it. Kryzan has failed to do that.

yes (0.00 / 0)
To your first point, I agree. But I would like to see it on the internets, its kinda fun to watch.

To your second point, I agree. That's why I could never vote for her. But If I'm Powers or Davis, I would completely ignore her and pretend she doesn't exist. That's the way the media's been covering it anyways.

Since your third point agreed with me, I agree with it too. Sorry Alice, as a Campaign Manager I once worked with used to say, "thanks for playing".

[ Parent ]
But can you imagine if she did win? (0.00 / 0)
The ballot:
Row A: Kryzan
Row B: Lee
Row C: Fumanelli
Row D: Lee
Row E: Powers
Row F: Davis

oof.

[ Parent ]
The Ad itself (0.00 / 0)

The best part is at the end when you can faintly hear fake Powers call fake Davis "double republican!" in the background.

[ Parent ]
wow (0.00 / 0)
The timing's awful, yes, but that's very nicely done.

I don't think a primary can (or should) be won on a single ad, but this one almost feels like the rest of the campaign was a lead-up to this.

I'm hoping that Dems will get better at having primaries as we have more of them.
