Paterson touted Silver's efforts during the last week in cutting the state budget, revealing that the Assembly recommended $850 million in cuts, $250 million more than the governor asked for when he called the legislature back for a special session.
"And the only thing that stood between us and those reductions was the New York state Senate. Do you hear me, Sen. Malcolm Smith?," calling on the Democratic leader of the Senate.
Off-stage, the governor said he didn't want to "pick favorites" or blame the state Senate for not making additional cuts. "I wanted to point out I saw the Assembly was criticized" during the budget process, and he mentioned that he wanted to point out the speaker's contribution, in light of Silver's three-way primary this year.

If that's not political cover, I don't know what is. I can't say I'm surprised, but it's getting a little ridiculous with the Governor. We knew that Spitzer supported reforming Albany and backing new personnel to win that fight. Paterson, on the other hand, is doing a better job at governing but failing to reform Albany and bring new personnel into state government.
It may be that Governor Paterson will be an opponent in our fight to reform Albany. |
