NY-26: Jack Davis on migrant labor: put black youth on buses and send them out to farms

by: Jerri S. Kaiser

Thu Sep 04, 2008 at 07:05:40 AM EDT

(From The Tonawanda News on Monday, September 1st)

Jack Davis, when asked about migrant farm labor:
JackDavisGas 062

We have a huge unemployment problem with black youth in our cities. Put them on buses, take them out there and pay them a decent wage; they will work. Why can't we get those two together, people who need jobs and farmers? We shouldn't be bringing in illegal foreigners to do that work.

Given all of the past racial discrimination history in this country, and as a Southerner I saw a lot of it growing up, I am astonished that someone would say such a thing.

Your thoughts?

UPDATE: Jerry Zremski of The Buffalo News has a very good and thorough piece up right now on this topic and more with additional interview statements from Davis.

How do you spell jackass? (0.00 / 0)
oh yeah, D-A-V-I-S

Sorry for the offensive subject line, but I am deeply offended by Davis' statement here.

Pledge, my ass (4.00 / 2)
This is why his handlers won't let Jack debate.  Imagine what he might say in a debate if he can't even accept a handshake in a parade.  What's liable to come out of his mouth when the other two or three people on the stage don't simply rollover for him the way his employees and paid campaign staff are trained?

Don't judge other people by your own limitations.

Davis (0.00 / 0)
Good for Davis. He had the balls, and maybe stupidity to actually say what he thinks. Im sure there are many others on this blog who think the same things but dont have the balls to come out and say it. and some of those people who have a problem with what davis said will probably actually attack him just to feel better. I'd rather have a politician like davis who says what he feels rather than another lying politician like Powers. War kids, what a joke.

Please! (0.00 / 0)
The lies about War Kids are not coming from Jon Powers.

If you want to see more of Jack saying exactly what he thinks, click through to the Buffalo News piece. Jack actually says that Canada wouldn't have a problem with Quebec if it weren't for illegal aliens. Hello? The Quebecois were there first! Jack Davis, by his own words, once again shows us that he is not a Democrat (see his statements on W's tax cuts for the wealthy, helath care, global warming, etc.), and does not live in the real world.

Not always a good thing. (0.00 / 0)
You're "sure there are many others on this blog who think the same things"?  Have you ever actually read any part of The Albany Project?  In the two 2 days since you signed up?  People who try to argue by claiming everyone else is lying about their true feelings has conceded defeat at the outset.

Saying what you're really thinking might not be well advised if you think loopy thoughts.  With these statements, Jack's essentially conceded the Democratic primary and has started running on his own boutique-party line.  If anyone thinks that Jack has already said the squirreliest things he's gonna say, wait.  He's going to run the nastiest, vilest, most unhinged train-wreck of a campaign that millions can buy.  Can you imagine what his paid handlers can come up with when they don't really expect to win the race?  On the scale of 'crazy', Jack's gonna look like the floor of a bat cave.

Don't judge other people by your own limitations.

Got ovaries--- BIG ovaries. (4.00 / 1)
And I'll tell you JUST what I think, come right out and say it: Jack Davis and anybody who agrees with him has absolutely no understanding of farm work and what it takes to do it, migrant and immigrant agricultural laborers and the substantial work skills they bring to the tasks they excel at, or unemployed urban black youth and the problems they face connecting effectively to the workforce.  If Davis was trying to offend huge chunks of the people who he claims to want to represent, this statement certainly does it.  This is only "good for Davis" if xenophobes, racists and people who look down on farmers and farming predominate in the district's electorate-- which I hope and trust is not the case.

It also shows Davis to be entirely without tact, and out of touch with the real world in which things are far more complex than he apparently can tell from his isolated office.  This man would be a total disaster in any elected office whatever. He lacks any capacity to represent others.

"Why can't we get those two together?" Seriously? (4.00 / 1)
Yeah, the rural transportation system is just so darned effective, it's SO easy for people who don't have cars (or jobs) to get to the dairy farms, and orchards, and doctors' offices, and grocery stores out here in the red counties.
Maybe Jack should just head on down to the inner city and SHOW those unemployed kids how to take a bus to a milking barn.
His ignorance is just astounding.

Exactly (4.00 / 1)
Do you get the sense that Jack feels such a program should be voluntary?

Add some "chain gang" lyrics... (0.00 / 0)
...and you got the worst of Jim Crow Mississippi.  I am so so so tired of being demeaned by association with this idiot who is masquerading as a Democrat.  PLEASE make him go away, ASAP.

This also shows.... (0.00 / 0)
How disconnected Mr. Davis is from the reality that, umm, the rest of us live in.  He probably really thinks that rounding up Black people from inner cities and forcing them to do farm labor is a good idea....right.  We should be focusing more on inner-city economic development with new technologies and better education, not this insanity.

I really would be embarrassed to have him as my Congressman.

Pathetic (0.00 / 0)
We are witnessing Davis in full crash and burn mode.  It actually is hard to watch because it appears almost pitiful.

So many un-Democratic Party views by Davis in the Zremski piece that it makes one wonder why he has a place on the "D" line in this primary in the first place -- when he should be competing with Lee for the Republican line.

Even more appalling... (0.00 / 0)
are the students in the background who actually support this headcase. Then again, they are more than likely getting a big fat check signed by Jack Davis...

Thought bubbles (0.00 / 0)
