NY-26: Kryzan likely to get WFP line

by: Exile on Ericsson St.

Mon Oct 06, 2008 at 13:12:26 PM EDT

From the Buffalo News:

Efforts are under way to make Democrat Alice J. Kryzan the new candidate of the Working Families Party in the 26th Congressional District, giving her another line on the ballot in her campaign against Republican Christopher J. Lee.

James A. Duncan, chairman of the Erie County Working Families Party, said today he expects Kryzan to take over the line because previous candidate Jon Powers has moved out of state. While the State Board of Elections in Albany has not yet received notification from Powers, Duncan said he expects it to arrive soon.

"This certainly is an additional plus for Alice," he said. "We hope to have this wrapped up by the end of the day."

Powers finally did something right (0.00 / 0)
Glad he took the deal.

about time (0.00 / 0)
almost a month after the fact, this should have been done by friday but thats not Jons fault it was his cmp. Manager Gerken try to keep his pay check for as long as possible

Great Scoop Exile! (0.00 / 0)
Glad to see we have somebody up there with a nimble eye on the ball.  Lets hope this race becomes real competitive now without any Democratic vote splitting.

in dc (0.00 / 0)
he was spotted in dc the thursday after the election,  i hope alice will be able to get that line, but on the bases that he moved out of state won't fly for a congress race as the canidate doesnt have to live in the distric, i hope i am wrong but a election law atty that i spoke with today on a diffrent matter thought, off the record a hard sell

[ Parent ]
Since when does a candidate for office not have to live in the district? (0.00 / 0)
That's news to me.

[ Parent ]
it sounds wierd (0.00 / 0)
kathy houcle lives in hamburgh, and i believe renyolds when frist elected had to move into the district, if mazier would have ran he would have had to move into the district and i believe you have 90 days post election to move in

[ Parent ]
i must correct (0.00 / 0)
the canidate must live in the state at time of election

[ Parent ]
s/he doesn't but (0.00 / 0)
s/he does have to live in the state

[ Parent ]
There are residency requirements (0.00 / 0)
For state office, but not for Congress.  For example, Bobby Kennedy could run for the Senate from New York, but he would have been ineligible to run for Governor.

[ Parent ]
thank you (0.00 / 0)
 wnydem that's a great example!!!!!!!!!!!

[ Parent ]
may i also point out (0.00 / 0)
how refreshing it is that he would take it upon himself to move out of state... rather than get nominated for a judicial seat, which is a horrible practice using the courts as a landfill.
but um... when is he coming back to new york?

It is difficult to get the news from poems

Yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.

Is Scott Rytlewski is mentally slow (0.00 / 0)
First of all, this guy doesn't know how to use punctuation, then he comments on things on which he has no idea what he is talking about????  Is this the same guy whose mother was ousted from the Orleans Chair position because she is impossible to work with and hasn't won a race in her entire tenure?

I mean, it is one thing to misspell a word or two, but his posts are illiterate and quite frankly illegible (and they are typed!!!!!).  Perhaps his mother should have stopped feeding him paint chips long enough to win a race in Orleans County... Don't worry Scott, it is not your fault.  I've just been reading TAP for too long and have seen your illiterate posts for too long to not call you out for being a moron.

As for Powers moving out of state - huge mistake.  That would be Gerken's mistake - for advising him to do so.

If he ever plans on running again, this will be an anchor around his neck on how he left WNY when WNY needed leadership more than ever.  Plus, Lee will beat Kryzan by 6-8 points and Powers leaving will have minimal effect on this race, so he basically screwed himself out of a run 4 years from now after re-apportionment.

a little over-the-top (0.00 / 0)
I'm not sure those kinds of personal insults directed at other commenters are appropriate here.

Also, let me ask: are you saying that you think Powers should stay on the WFP line?  It's hard to see how that wouldn't hurt him with with Democratic party down the road.

down the road (0.00 / 0)
i know politics have a short memorey but he left the area with alot of lose ends and people wondering so in two years will supporters be willing to forgive and forget thats left to be seen but if gerken in the picture he doa

[ Parent ]
a little over-the-top indeed (0.00 / 0)
I think that Jon Powers' appeal was that he was not one of "them" and this makes him look like he took a political deal.  I agree that insiders like yourself and others who follow this very closely (10 times more closely than the average voter) think he is doing the right thing, but "Joe Six Pack" (dare I say) will smell a rat and think that this is more political games by a guy who they did not think was that political, so, yes, I think he should not move out of state, stay on the line, suspend his campaign, and endorse Kryzan.  As opposed to doing something that looks shady and jeopardizing his political future.  Think of the irony, he will not even be able to vote in NY-26 if he moves out of state...

use your real name (0.00 / 0)
if you want to critize me that fine , but leave my mother out of it, and as for not winning election do your home work last election cycle in orleans county there where 21 seats up we won 11 out of 21 for the dems in a county who enrollment is 2-1 rep so if you cant do the math it 66-33% enrollment figure and 11 out of  21  is a 53 % winners and took over two towns boards in the county i say thats pretty good!!!!!!!!

the only moron is you when you say jon screwed him self out of a run in 4 years, seats for congress are evry 2 years the only that your right about is Gerken is big mistake for any canidate who wants to run for congress

[ Parent ]
I do not even know where to start... (0.00 / 0)
First, use spell check and when you start a new sentence, the first word should have a capital letter.  Those two additions to the Rytlewski portfolio would greatly help the rest of us interpret what the heck you are trying to say.

Second, if your mother was such a good chair, why did she get the boot?

Third, I know Congress runs every 2 years, but something you clearly do not know is that this seat will be re-apportioned (that means changed/redistricted) into a Democratic seat in 4 years, which would greatly increase Jon Powers' chances of winning after the trainwreck that is the Kryzan campaign loses to the uninspiring Lee in a year where no Democrat should lose.

Fourth, what do you have against this Gerken guy?  Did he pick on you in high school or something?  You should make it a point to not criticize campaigns unless you know what is going on in them.  I'm sure he probably made mistakes, but to blame a loss like this on him seems a little out of line.

Also, if you are so good at running campaigns, why don't you go out and run some instead of blogging about it?

Scott is Scott... (0.00 / 0)
I know Scott personally. I have known him since I met him over a year ago - the same day, coincidentally, that I met Jon Powers.

Scott will also tell you I'm not his greatest defender. We have had our troubles and that's as much as I will say here. In small-town rural politics, you are going to clash. That's just how it is.

That said, from knowing Scott I know that he is a bad speller. Not only do I know this, but Scott will admit it himself. He's no Ernest Hemingway. He's not going to write you a nice book of poetry. He jokingly told me one time that his bad spelling is due to not reading Bill Clinton's autobiography.

I have my own criticisms of the Rytlewskis and people locally know that. I'm not going to share them with people in Amherst because, quite frankly, Erie County Democratic politics ranks somewhere between "All My Children" and "General Hospital" as my favorite soap opera of all time. If you guys quit with the drama there and started working together, maybe you wouldn't be embarrassing one another like you do now.

Look, every county has its issues. In the bigger counties, they just happen to make it to print or TV. In the smaller counties, they make for nothing more than chatter at the local diner. Sally Rytlewski has won races in Albion. There is a reason why there are elected Democrats on the Town Board in Albion and why the Village of Albion is the only blue village in Orleans County. Sally has her weaknesses. She's not the best county chair we had. But her strength is Albion and she has shown an ability to win races there.

Of course, you don't see that from Amherst. You see that from inside Orleans County. I know this. You don't. Period.

Support our troops, not the war.

[ Parent ]
no need to defend me (0.00 / 0)
robert thank you for the defense i think, i might be bias as for the best chair ever but if you where around for the do nothing 8 years of the current chair, sally raised more money in two years than she did in all here 8 years, and didn't have to lie to steve about where the local county and town canadaties stood on the landfill and if you where around in the 80s and 90 when dave green and rich bennete sold out the dems for there own personal gain and now they are using gary kent to do there dirty work watch and see the current chair will resign and give it to dave green, and if you could of attended the reorganization meeting and saw the rule of law not followed you would have been shock so that why there will be a law suite filed and the committee disbanded till 2010 it is a slam dunk suite the lawyer took it and is willing to travel to orleans county from albany to file as heis looking to inprove his resume

[ Parent ]
stop hidden behind a phony name (0.00 / 0)
1) if you undestood rural politics the good old boys who make deals with the other side for there best intrest not the party or the beterment of the county time will prove that

2) the seat wont be officle elected till 2012 after the 2010  cenus  and more than likely jon if he live in clarence will be in higgins district

3) i did know what was going on inside the powers campaign and it was clear to many people that gerken was the problem as well as when gerken ran jack davis campaign congrssional campain are out of his politicle abilitys, Eben was the only qualified staffer in the whole bunch,he able to pick up a phone and get a new job just like that

4) as far as running a campaign for congress my disabilty doesnt allow me, as a consultant my two cents was given to many sucessful canidates in the past and in the furure

becuse you know so much whats your name you should be proud of it

Stop writing illiterate scripts (0.00 / 1)
Scott, please check the spelling and use proper punctuation.  If you cannot write at the equivalent of an 8th grader, you should be embarrassed you post your self-proclaimed consultant-stature opinion.  Bottom line, I volunteered for Jon Powers and was in his campaign office 3-4 times a week and never once saw you, so you had no idea what was going on there.  Again, do you have any specifics on how Gerken or Sara or Victoria, or Todd messed up in the race?  You say Eben was the only qualified person there, what did the others do that was so wrong?  Hey by the way, how is Suhr '08 working out for you...thought so.

[ Parent ]
so just what is your name (0.00 / 0)
as for the suhr campaign i went into the hospital 3 time and told the lady that the petitions had to be changed but she is one of the petty back stabers who told the passer that she checked with albany and they where right, come to find out she was in kahouts with gary kent whos egeo got damage because he feels he should be the only one to run

your write Todd did his job!! but as for sara and victoria the never got what rural areas are, the have to be treated diffrent that was also a fault of gerken, the one meeting sara set up out here she showed up late and didnt have a pen or piece of paper, (you can only make first inpression once) all the phone calls in orleans kept turn out low we relayed this info to her that we where recieving 10-12 calls a day ask us to stop the calling from the dem canidate or they whernt going to vote at all and by the way what's your name all vollunterrs have names

If none of them knew what they were doing (0.00 / 0)
why did Jon Powers win all the rural counties?  That kind of blows up your argument that they didn't know how to win in rural areas.

As far as turnout being low, it was the highest turnout in the rural counties in the last 14 years.  How do you reconcile that with your argument that they turned away voters?

You make blanket statements and do not have adequate facts or evidence to back them up.  That is more reckless than your lack of knowledge when it comes to elementary grammar.

[ Parent ]
what up with your name cat got your tounge (0.00 / 0)
when hillary ran a primaries she got 1700 votes that 500 more than all 3 canidates got combined why becuse here campaign new to let the people in the countys get the vote out and thats what here point person did

where do you get your numbers. and if you guys from erie county are so good why didnt he win erie county, and if alice would have used the John LaFalce endorsement right, jon would of lost orleans by hundreds

you dont live out here so you dont know

so please dont ans me if you are ashmed of your name

[ Parent ]
Hillary ran for the Presidency you moron (0.00 / 1)
Turn out was a lil bit high than it was for Congress (like 15% higher).  Where do I get my numbers??????  The board of elections.  Where do you get the bullshit you spew?

You have got to be one of the dumbest people I have ever interacted with.  Not only are you illiterate, but your reasoning is completely incomprehensible.  It is shocking that the people at TAP actually let you post.
