NY-29: Research2000/DKos Poll - Massa 49 - Kuhl 42

by: phillip anderson

Thu Oct 09, 2008 at 16:06:28 PM EDT

Daily Kos has just published their Research 2000 poll of NY-29 and the results track very well with both the polls that were released last week. The poll finds challenger Eric Massa with a 7 point lead at 49-42.

Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 10/7-8. Likely voters. MoE 5% (No trend lines)

Kuhl (R) 42
Massa (D) 49

O2B candidate Eric Massa is obviously running a fantastic race -- winning independents by double digits, winning over 12 percent of Republicans while losing only 5 percent of Democrats, and sitting just a hair-width away from taking a seat he lost by just three percentage points in 2006. In fact, Eric Massa has outraised wife abuser Randy "Shotgun" Kuhl by a narrow margin, something you don't see every day. Incumbents usually vastly outraise challengers, but Massa ran a great race in 2006, and has learned the right lessons from his first bid last cycle to kick it up even higher.

phillip anderson :: NY-29: Research2000/DKos Poll - Massa 49 - Kuhl 42
This survey was conducted by Research 2000 of Rockville, Maryland. A total of 400 likely voters in the Twenty-Ninth Congressional District were interviewed by telephone between October 7 and October 8, 2008.

Those interviewed were selected by the random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers. A cross-section of exchanges was utilized in order to ensure an accurate reflection of the district. Quotas were assigned to reflect the voter registration of distribution by district.

The margin for error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is no more than plus or minus 5% percentage points. This means that there is a 95 percent probability that the "true" figure would fall within that range if the entire population were sampled. The margin for error is higher for any subgroup, such as for gender or party affiliation.

One thing to note... (0.00 / 0)
This poll tries to accurately portray the makeup of the district. With 40 percent of those surveyed Republicans, 36 percent of those surveyed Democrats and 24 percent of those surveyed being Independents, for Massa to have a seven point lead among that group is impressive.

By the way, unless I am missing something, I have never seen the numbers as reflected here included in any of the Siena polls about how many Republicans, Democrats and Independents they asked. But, as always, I will stand corrected if proven otherwise.

Great numbers from Massa. He's winning Independents and women handily. That's a very good sign.

36% is a little high (0.00 / 0)
For Democrats in the district.  But there may have been rej changes the past two years.

WOMEN (0.00 / 0)
I've been telling the campaign that women are the key to the win-- I really do believe that.  But, even the numbers with men are just about even.  Wow. Good work well rewarded.

women (0.00 / 0)
should have been the key to victory. Y'all are always more important for Democrats, but especially against a wife-beater...

...but if thats true that Massa is tied (!)among men, then holy bleeping shit. Kuhl should be winning men by at least 15 points.

Game

Set...

I think Massa (0.00 / 0)
Is a Democratic candidate with a strong appeal to men.  Same goes for Obama.

The "Commander" thing (0.00 / 0)
Agree on that-- the military background and the appeal to vets has a strong male bias.  True that Kuhl really upset women in the district... but, I think that Massa has spent a lot of his life around mostly men in the workplace, and it does sometimes show.  In any event, the momentum is sure enough building.  Which is spectacularly great news.

Massa Yes..... (0.00 / 0)
But it's going to take Women to put Barack way over the top, I can see him tying McCain among men but winning big among women.
