Ortloff, "an outspoken supporter of stricter penalties for sex offenders," had been communicating with his targets for months:
Ortloff used an Internet Web camera and traveled to a Colonie hotel on Monday planning to rape two young girls he believed were ages 11 and 12.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Spina said Ortloff had been communicating with the "girls" since June and believed their parents would drop them off at the motel.

Authorities said he tried to set up the tryst during a Sept. 10 Web chat. He promised to bring lubricant and sex toys for the rendezvous, according to a federal complaint. The complaint alleges he had condoms, sex toys and a camera when authorities confronted him at the motel.
After he retired from the Assembly, Ortloff landed on his feet, getting a six-figure, part-time job on the State Parole Board, thanks to his GOP buddy, former Gov. George Pataki.
He also gets a state pension from his time in the Assembly, and was working as a real estate salesman in Lake Placid.
Ortloff is 61 years old, so odds are this is not the first time he's attempted, or succeeded in, raping young girls. And odds are that his political power kept those crimes well-concealed.
Fred Dicker, a conservative, New York Post Capitol reporter who also has a radio show on WGDJ-AM, broke the story in print, and dissed Ortloff today on his show as untrustworthy and mendacious.
Dicker neglected to add, like most non-pervert Republicans.
Final interesting touch, Ortloff was an anchor at Plattsburgh's only TV station before he got into politics.
