NY-26: Jon Powers Endorses Alice Kryzan

by: robert.harding

Fri Oct 17, 2008 at 14:10:55 PM EDT

Contrary to popular belief, I never thought it was necessary that Jon Powers endorse Alice Kryzan. But Jon, after serious thought and meditation, has come out in a big way for Alice today.

Jon has sent an e-mail to supporters endorsing Alice and asking them to do whatever they can to help Alice as she takes on Republican Chris Lee in a tough fight here in NY-26.

Here is the first part of the e-mail:

Friends,

Over the last 18 months, together, we have worked to call attention to the many challenges Western New Yorkers face. I listened to families struggling because of our weakened economy, soldiers fighting in a war without the necessary equipment and returning without health care they have earned -- there is no question that our country is hurting because of Washington's failed leadership. With just 18 days until Election Day, I write to urge you to vote for change. We have a chance to elect a new Member of Congress to represent the working men and women of Western New York and I hope you will join me in supporting Alice Kryzan for Congress.

Families in Western New York have a clear choice. As our youth are moving out of state to find jobs, do we want a representative who will continue to send our jobs overseas? Or do we want someone who will fight to grow good paying Green-collar and Green-tech jobs that will move Western New York into the 21st Century.

The rest of the e-mail is below the fold.

We have 18 days until Election Day. Let's help Alice Kryzan any way we can. Whether it's going door to door, phone banking or writing letters to the editor, let's help make sure NY-26 turns blue on November 4.

Do we want someone who will continue to fail our veterans and military families or someone who will work to restore honor to our fighting forces?

Do we want someone in Washington to continue the failed economic policies of the Bush Administration or do we want someone who will work toward relieving the tax burden on the Middle Class?

The choice between the two candidates campaigning for the 26th Congressional District is clear for Western New Yorkers, and that is why I am endorsing Alice Kryzan.

Alice will fight for the middle class and work to bring a new generation of jobs back to Western New York. She has signed on to the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq and will take care of our returning veterans.

Chris Lee talks about a new direction, but clearly supports the status quo. His website fails to even mention veterans or our brave men and women currently fighting in two wars. That, I believe, is proof of his lack of compassion he has for those who are defending our nation.

The choice between Alice Kryzan and Chris Lee could not be clearer for the working families of Western New York. Western New York deserves a representative in Congress who will fight for us.

You can learn more about Alice's vision for our country at her website http://www.kryzanforcongress.com/

Please volunteer, spread the word, and help us bring real change to Washington by voting for Alice on November 4th.

Sincerely,

Jon

If Jon Powers REALLY wants to help Alice (0.00 / 0)
Instead of paying himself a salary from his residual campaign funds, he can transfer his remaining campaign funds to the DCCC, which can in turn spend more on Alice's behalf.

WNYDEM (0.00 / 0)
WNYDEM,

You're an **shole and an idiot.

The guy took a job out of state, moved at the drop of the hat for the DCCC, and even endorsed her...

That's after Kryzan:

-- bashed his War Kid's Relief efforts
-- help spread the LIES about him taking 80K in salary
-- stated in the Hardwick debate she wouldn't hit War Kids

-- hit him in 2 debates about special interest (PAC) money
-- in turn took $ 80,000 in PAC $$ over the past month!!!!

She's a lying attorney who snuck into her position. She's got 1/3 of the cash on hand that Lee does, and she's a proven flip flopping attorney.

Why don't you ask Davis to step up and hand over his millions left in his campaign fund?

She should be lucky she even got his endorsement.

Also - where in his filing does it show Powers took a salary?

You can't stop lying about the guy even after he did what he could to help the Democratic Party?

You're a really sad, pathetic person.

Vote for Powers on the WFP line November 4th !!!

Alright... (0.00 / 0)
Enough Alice bashing. I know that you are a Democrat. I know that you supported Jon passionately. But if you would rather have Chris Lee, that's your choice. Alice is a progressive who will vote that way in Congress. We don't need Tom Reynolds' robot in Congress. That's exactly what Chris Lee is.

According to the recent filing, Powers had $5,000 paid to him as "payroll." That's not a big deal in my eyes considering he still has $91,919.40 left in the bank to use up. But is listed as a payroll expense, which suggests he was paid a "salary."

I don't support Lee (0.00 / 0)
I don't support Lee, never will, and I never said he was a better choice.

I'll vote for Alice, but I am disgusted by the Dem's who are crying foul that Powers didn't endorse her earlier and can't stop bashing him even after he did all the party needed him to do to help increase Kryzan's slim chance in November.

For her to tote around as if she's a perfect fit for WNY is a disgrace. She is a politician, plane and simple.

She'll get my vote reluctantly because she is the better of two evils.

Vote for Powers on the WFP line November 4th !!!

WNYDEM, I think you need to go to the hospital... (0.00 / 0)
Your hard-on over Jon Powers has lasted well over four hours. I think you need to get that treated.

He paid himself $5,000. He has over $90,000 left. Your point?

Smearing the guy during the primary wasn't enough, right? Making him seem like a charity thief and cop hater wasn't enough, right?

Get over yourself.

And take a cold shower.

I tend to agree (0.00 / 0)

Kudos to Jon for his gracious endorsement... (4.00 / 3)
I look forward to working with him again in the future.

Judas priest, some of you people need to at least look up 'maturity' and knock off the political Dungeons and Dragons bullshit.

Hmmm. (0.00 / 0)
Well, finally. He should have done this the day after the primary, but what the hey.

heh. (0.00 / 0)

TODAY is day one. It always is.

I disagree... (0.00 / 0)
The WKR attacks were personal. Deeply personal. Those attacks weren't just an attack on Jon. Those attacks were attacks on Jon AND his family. While Jack Davis kept hammering Powers on the attacks, Alice did jump in on it. It's obvious that Alice and Jon have let bygones be bygones. But I know that those attacks really stuck with Jon. He needed some time to gather himself.

This endorsement is real. This isn't some "I lost and I don't care who is the candidate"-type endorsement that you usually see on Primary Night or the day after. He sent the e-mail to his supporters, which should mean something. This will bring closure to some of those who were very passionate about Jon and who were/are reluctant to support Alice.

I think there was a strategic aspect to this ... (0.00 / 0)
... and I'm speaking as someone who has no knowledge about the events. I did work with Jon's campaign, but his choices after the primary were his own.

I think he did this exactly right. His name is removed from the WFP line, and the endorsement coming now is much more effective in that it's another news item where there is positive talk about Alice.

Think of the stink that would have been raised had he endorsed, then moved...they would have said he did it just to get Alice on the WFP ballot...political game...and it would have hurt the endorsement.

I do know that Jon has a job he likes in DC and is still very interested in helping the victims of war.

We've got some work ahead of us.

I didn't.  Such is life.  Grab a phone.  Grab a clipboard. I'm praying that people are expending this much effort and concern in getting the remaining Dems elected.
