Mitch McConnell Hates New York and Possibly Jews

by: Roatti

After seeing this ad, all I can say is woah.

Wow.  Besides the strong whiff of anti-Semitism (see narrator's accent, Schumer being rained on by dollar signs), isn't it a little inaproppriate for a sitting Senate Minority Leader to openly bash one of the states of our union?

As for the anti-Semitism, if you are a Jewish reader, I would love to hear your opinion on this.

I'm Jewish (4.00 / 4)
I'd call this a classic hit job, and yeah how could anyone miss the ethnic overtones of a Jackie Mason-type accent with a little James Gandolfini-type thrown in to water it down.

Frankly I'm surprised they didn't photoshop up Chuck's features the way Fox news did to the Jewish reporters a few months back.

That said, if McConnell is running an add like this it means hello Senator Lunsford. I've got to think that if I was watching TV and this came on all I'm think is "Huh, WTF was that all about."  From an objective standpoint, this just sucks.

I'd like to think that as Senate Minority leader if I was going to go out, I'd want to still have some credibility left to get a lobbying job or something.  Now not only will he lose, he'll be persona non-grata around town.

On the other hand, if he somehow wins he won't be able to get a post office named.

I really hope this backfires and the Kentucky powers-that be call him out for this one (and he loses).

Yeah. It's anti-Semitic. (4.00 / 3)
It smells to high heaven.

I just donated $100 to Lunsford on ActBlue (4.00 / 2)
This slimeball is Republican leadership- he needs to be gone

Great stuff- hit him where it hurts! (0.00 / 0)

As a Jew, your post caught my eye (4.00 / 1)
The New Republic had this take on the commercial

Is Schumer the New Kennedy

Now, on one level, the choice of Schumer as McConnell's Democratic bogeyman makes sense--since it's Schumer, as chairman of the DSCC, who's targeted McConnell for defeat. But you have to wonder if McConnell was forced to choose Schumer for this role since good taste prevented him from using the GOP's usual Democratic bogeyman, Ted Kennedy.

If Schumer is going to be the GOP's new Kennedy, they do need to work out a few kinks. For one, what's with the accent of that ad's narrator? At first I thought he was supposed to sound like Saul Cohen from Crown Heights. But by the end of the ad--when he's saying stuff like "bada bing bada boom" and "forget about it"--I thought he sounded like Sal Colazzo from Bensonhurst. Memo to McConnell: get your ethnic stereotypes straight!

--Jason Zengerle

Sound to me like son of bitch Mitch was going for the whole anti New York, anti Northeast Liberal establishment and anti ethnic thing that a desperate Southern Conservative is wont to do polling below 50% and tied by his challenger in the latest polls.  I would love to read Congresman Yarmouth's take on this.  As a Jewish Congressman from Loiisville on on the verge of dispatching Ann Northrup by double digits in their rematch, he may feel free to check in on this?

Pretty bad ad (4.00 / 1)
You're right, anti semitic what a bad accent. It's going to put his opponent over the top. In that district he's not running against Schumer so it's too much of a stretch that he's the new Kennedy to fear. It's anti NY and anti liberal and if that's his closing argument I don't think it flies unless the voters there are really that stupid.

The ad is terrible (4.00 / 2)
But Jews don't usually say "Bada-bing" (at least, my grandmother didn't).  I think it was part anti-semitic, part anti-Italian, part anti-New York, and part anti-Price-is-Right.
