| With all of this talk about the Gang of Three and possibly defections, we should start considering possible responses against their defection. The main reason we're in this position is our narrow 32-30 majority.
So here's an idea; what if Governor Paterson recruits a Senate Republican into his administration, thereby freeing up a seat for a special election? |
| BingChester :: Governor Paterson: "Pull a Spitzer" and Increase Our Majority! |
| One of Governor Spitzer's popular acts with state Democrats was plucking Mike Balboni out of the State Senate and then campaigning vigorously for Craig Johnson. Part of the reason we were in this position in 2008 was Spitzer's recruitment. Now with the threat of up to three Democrats defecting and giving Skelos the State Senate again, we could combat their influence by plucking a moderate Republican out of the State Senate and then taking their seat.
The question is, who would go along with this? My initial inkling would be Senator Padavan, who just barely eked out re-election. We would definitely take his seat if he vacated for an administrative position. Padavan also strikes me as the type of Senator who won't enjoy his position in the minority and would rather do something productive with his time.
Is this a feasible idea? What other Senators could be plucked away? |
