Disappearing Blogs?

by: robinia

Mon Dec 08, 2008 at 13:48:23 PM EST

Recently, I found that I could no longer access the blog that I used to keep up with events in the North Country, Danger Democrat.  First, I got a message saying that DD was "in hiatus," now, I get this message:

Blog has been removed

Sorry, the blog at dangerdemocrat.blogspot.com has been removed. This address is not available for new blogs.

It left me concerned about DD's health.

Then, today, I tried to read Rochester Turning and got this message:

This account has been suspended
Please contact the support department as soon as possible, and please have your site name ready.

Are the Bushie Internet Police just messing with me?  What happens when you try?  Know anything?

huh... (4.00 / 1)
RT looks like it's not there, but I can get to http://www.jeffersondemocrat.org, which is, I believe the DD site, right?

New Yorkers against Harold Ford

Well, no. (0.00 / 0)
That is a different blog-- same idea, though, and, maybe it will do for keeping up with way-upstate news.  The one I have bookmarked, and that is linked on our blogroll here at right, is http://dangerdemocrat.blogspot... and it is MIA.

duh... (0.00 / 0)
I noticed that after I posted... :-P  Google gave me the jeffersondemocrat one when I googled danger democrat, I just missed your url in the original post.  but I checked, and it doesn't seem to be there... same message as you got.

I get the same thing at RT (0.00 / 0)
I suspect it's just an issue with the server provider.  That's happened before.  I just contacted them to let them know.

Thanks (0.00 / 0)
I didn't really know who the server provider was to get in contact with them.

[ Parent ]
sorry, I meant (0.00 / 0)
Let RT know so they can contact their provider.

I just talked to them and they said there's a problem with their provider but it should hopefully be back up soon.

Bluehost (0.00 / 0)
If it's anything like the problem I had with my blog (nycowboy.org) on bluehost, they probably are overloading the server, per their limits. They have quite restrictive limits on CPU use, and if your CGI scripts are inefficent or broken, they'll disable your account pretty quickly. All you have to do is contact them and they'll point you in the direction of the problem, disable the bad script, then they'll reactive your account -- all within in an hour.

We've all been there (0.00 / 0)
My blog went poof about a month ago.  It was scary.

(Hey... is this THE New York Cowboy?  Hello!  Your blog is brilliant.)

Thanks (0.00 / 0)
Ditto to NYCO-- am a big fan of your blog, too.
I see from the trail of cyber-breadcrumbs that it is indeed bluehost that is the host... and they are still down, so, Exile, pls let them know about this possible problem.  Them Roch-cha-cha peoples can sometimes post some pretty bit-hungry photos.... culture of photographic perfection, I guess.

[ Parent ]
I've spoken with them (0.00 / 0)
They're moving and I'll let everyone know as soon as they are back up!

Something strange happened to me today as well (0.00 / 0)
My RSS feed on my blog, which was updated last night, now only extend to Sept. 9. I was thinking it was a tech problem with either Feedburner or with Blogger. It better get fixed soon, however, as most of my readers subscribe to my feed rather than coming to my site.

RT's Facebook message (4.00 / 3)
This is hilarious.

Rochester Turning Turning is moving hosts, unexpectedly. Please be patient-- we need a little time to curse at our current host, gnash our teeth and sow their fields with salt.

Well, that 'splains that. (4.00 / 1)
But, what about DD?

[ Parent ]
Reports of RT's demise have been greatly exaggerated (4.00 / 1)
We expect to be up later today, on a MUCH MUCH better host.

It's mostly set up now, just tweaking things and kicking the tires.

Thanks all for your concern.  And now I know if RT ever truly passes, someone will find us and notify the authorities before our 50 cats have eaten us.
