VIDEO: Wes Clark Speaks In NYC

by: phillip anderson

Thu Mar 15, 2007 at 15:47:09 PM EDT

General Wesley Clark was in town last night to speak at an event sponsored by DL21C in Manhattan. The event was well attended by all the usual suspects, Eric Massa even made an appearance, and General Clark spoke for a good 45 minutes or so. He spoke repeatedly of "restoring America's legitimacy in the world" and of his disgust with the policies pursued by the current "administration". He was particularly passionate about their condoning torture and the use of military commissions saying "This is not the America I fought for in uniform." Overall, it was a perfectly fine speech for the most part, even if it was a little flat in places. He repeatedly teased the crowd with references to a potential prsidential run. At one point he told the crowd that "Every morning I wake up lusting to be back in New Hampshire."

Here is the first part of video I shot of the speech. I apologize for the quality. It was a dark room to begin with and the DL21C folks decided to put the General in the absolute darkest patch in the space. (Clark also delivered his talk standing on an ottoman just so people could see him) Watch this space for more segments throughout the day. I'll be posting them as fast as I can process them.

part 3 (4.00 / 2)

If only Clark entered the Iowa Caucuses in '04 (4.00 / 1)
what a different world we would live in.  sigh

lipris, you lucky dog! (4.00 / 1)
I go to see Clark whenever I can since I love him so much I want to marry him!

Why in the name of God isn't he announcing??????

What a long, strange trip it's been.

part 4 (4.00 / 1)

TODAY is day one. It always is.

The excitement in the crowd - (0.00 / 0)
- was palpable. Not only palpable, but on the edge, expectant, excited, and in awe of our very wise, very experienced soldier/stateman, who spoke from his heart and from his educated, worldly-wise collected wisdom on many matters of interest to the dem community.

Not only that, but he was very approachable, in the sense that he honestly answered the questions, not all of them "accomodating," and was a total breath of fresh air. You can see it all unfold in lipris's excellent videos,  much better than I can possibly say.

Dark arena notwithstanding, light was shed on many topics. An enlightening evening, overall.

part 5 (4.00 / 1)
