You Know? I Didn't; But Caroline Kennedy Bores Me, Anyway

by: robinia

I'm one of those who truly dislikes the idea of Governor Paterson appointing Caroline Kennedy to the US Senate seat about to be vacated by Senator Clinton.  Although she doesn't have much of a record as an elected official to go on, and won't release her financial information to the public, we can pick up bits and tabs of info here and there-- and not much of it interests me.  Bloomberg likes her a lot(two strikes...although his aide, Deputy Mayor Kevin Sheekey, is no longer "out front" in her campaign), and she did not vote for Carl McCall for Governor(many strikes-- I thought he would have been a very good, as well as historic, governor).

But, this just shows an inability to do, like, um, you know, the "public speaking" thing that, um, politicians do, ya know?

Governor Paterson: appoint somebody with appropriate skills and experience, 'kay? This is not, after all, Alaska.

Push poll (0.00 / 0)
Last night I was on the receiving end of an obvious anti-Kennedy push poll. It started out normally asking for an opinion on Bush, but by the end there were two obviously loaded questions about Kennedy related to her lack of financial transparency and lack of specific positions.  The only other name mentioned was Cuomo.

Well, that does sound like Andrew (0.00 / 0)
Can't fault him for not trying hard to be a politician.  Still think he is better at prosecution than administration or legislation, but he has surely shown a consistent and ambitious goal-orientation toward working in government.  Caroline dabbles.

That said, there are others out there who may not be "campaigning" as hard, but still have the skill set and experience to do a good job.

Push polling w/o an election? (0.00 / 0)
I really don't understand the point, unless they think that the Governor's choice would be swayed by public opinion.

That's not a push poll (0.00 / 0)
A push poll goes out to thousands and thousands of people to try and persuade, and is not a poll at all

What you got was called "testing negatives"

You stated that

All of that interests me. As a citizen of New York and a member of the Democratic party, I am deeply concerned that Ms. Kennedy has not consistently participated in the electoral process, chooses not to make public her financial dealings, and has shown no interest in government until this year.

Just because she wants it now does not make her qualified to sit in the US Senate.

Her disinterest should be of paramount interest to all truly engaged New Yorkers.

Tax the Church.

Agree-- (0.00 / 0)
I just meant it didn't interest me in terms of making me think she should merit any consideration.  If she wants to slack off on voting, be secretive about her massive wealth, and not contribute to political campaigns, even use sloppy speech patterns in interviews with reporters, that is all ok as long as nobody seriously considers her for elected office.  I'd just keep ignoring her, like I always did. Am not seeing any up side that would interest me in her.

Let's hope our governor feels the same!

Guv, (0.00 / 0)
I would vote for a Senator Bill Clinton..

I would vote for a Senator Kirsten Guillibrand..

I would even vote for a Senator Malcom Smith (although, for other reasons)

But, I won't vote for a Senator Caroline Kennedy.

Smith? (0.00 / 0)
Someone has suggested Malcolm Smith?!?

now that would make life interesting (0.00 / 0)
though personally I was hoping Paterson would choose my Assemblywoman.

Well, not exactly, but it would, again, make life interesting.

I'm going out on a limb... (0.00 / 0)
I think Paterson will pick Tom Suozzi. He is an amazingly intelligent and reform minded. I don't think that these qualities are lost on Paterson and New York voters.
