| "In a town that once had a two to one Republican registration advantage, we have seen that cut down to a gap of just 5% and for the first time in history Council District number 1 now has more registered Democrats than Republicans!", said Laufer.
The crowd rose to one of many standing ovations as State Senator, Brian Foley, placed the name of Mark Lesko into nomination. Foley informed the audience that it was Mark Lesko's office that investigated and uncovered much of the corruption that the Republicans committed resulting in the vernacular Crookhaven Town! Highway Superintendent, John Rouse, seconded the nomination. Standing before the packed house with Democratic Town officials Pam Bethiel, Town Clerk and Councilpersons Constance Kepert and Steve-Fiore Rosenfeld.
"I need a good partner in town government", said the popular Rouse who has won double digit re-elections each time since his initial 2003 election, "not one who in partisan fashion striped the highway budget and damaged the moral of my men."
Mark Lesko joined his team of incumbents to accept the nomination with a speech that was interrupted by nearly a dozen standing ovations. .
"The culture of corruption is being revived by the current Republican town board majority with twelve members of the previous Supervisors administration back in appointed office!" ... "They have striped the Town Supervisor of his budget and his ability to SUPERVISE in order to return us back to the dark old days of business as usual"... "I know where all the political corpses are buried and I will work hard every day to make sure they do not rise from the dead!"
Lesko continued to provide his vision of a town supervisor performing the role of "The peoples Advocate" and his plans to continue the Foley administration reforms and to build upon them to assure cost effective and responsible government.
Congressman Tim Bishop rose to the podium stating "that is a hard act to follow and I won't even try". Bishop mentioned how the towns backslide to the forces of corruption occurred in this very Mastic area council district when a mere 200 vote margin in the 2007 election created the Mazzei majority that is working so hard to turn back the clock.
As Laufer said in her opening remarks
"When you want to move your car in reverse you shift it to "R", when you want to move forward you shift into "D"!
Good luck Mark Lesko! |
