Caroline Kennedy Is Really Out This Time. For Reals

Enough already. Apparently she's really out this time.

Caroline Kennedy withdraws Senate bid

Caroline Kennedy said she has withdrawn her name from consideration for the Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton, in a statement released early Thursday morning.

"I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate," the official statement read.

Confirmation of the decision followed hours of conflicting reports from several news agencies.

Can you hear that? That's the sound of the rest of the nation laughing at us, our Governor and the rest of the whole ridiculous process.

Hey, Governor, pull the trigger. This has gone on long enough. We're a punchline now.

Ms. Kennedy declined to be interviewed.

But of course...

My personal speculation: she discovered she was the wrong person for the job (4.00 / 1)
I worked as an Internet and editorial consultant for George magazine back in the mid-90s when it first launched. I got to know John Kennedy and discovered over two-years time and found that he was an extremely privileged and sheltered individual (this isn't a knock against him personally, it's just the reality of his social status and upbringing). It was almost like he was an alien visiting from another planet; he didn't even know how to use a can opener and he had never set foot in a Sears store until we needed something for a small emergency when we were in San Diego. It also took him some time to realize that publishing a magazine is a tough and time consuming job and most people in the industry work late hours, it's not a glamorous life. After a while, he ceased being a hands-on editor.

If Caroline is anything like her brother, I believe that her dropping out has less to do with the media criticism of her, I think she discovered that she really didn't have a good basis to relate to most New Yorkers and that this job was not what she thought it would be.
