Marginal Madness
U.S. Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-Greenport, is one of eight members of the House and four U.S. senators competing in an on-line “March Madness” contest for funding from U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-MA, who announced on his Web site that he wants to help Democratic candidates in the GOP’s crosshairs to boost their first-quarter fundraising totals.
“In 2008, the Republicans will launch an all-out assault on our majority in Congress. Our Democratic majority must be sustained and a strong show of early fundraising is the best way to show that we stand by those who want to change the direction of our country,” Kerry’s site states.
“Below, we’ve got a great slate of candidates, and we need your help to choose who to support in this first round of fundraising. So choose two from among the strong Democrats in each column, two House members from the left and two Senators on the right. Deadline for voting is Sunday, March 25 at midnight ET, so vote now! Thank you!”
I have to agree with a few of the critiques offered in comments at CapCon, especially as regards the Senate side. Tom Harkin is far from endangered. And the whole notion of framing the idea around "March Madness" is a somewhat lame. But, I will give Kerry credit for doing something to help out the frosh Reps in marginal districts, districts that the GOP will come after hard in '08.
