(From the diaries. Our first response from an elected regarding our No Reform? No Raise! campaign. Have you contacted your reps yet? - promoted by lipris)
I emailed my Senator, Mike Nozzolio, on 11/28/06 to ask him where he stood on this issue. I just received his letter, dated 12/1/06, in which he replied as follows:
Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns with the possibilty of a state legislative pay increase. I appreciate the benefit of your views regarding this matter.
As your State Senator, I fully agree with you and am adamantly opposed to any legislative pay raises at this time.

Though there has been a lot of media speculation on this issue, I have yet to see or hear of any definitive plans for a pay raise for New York State Legislators and Judges. Should legislation requiring a pay increase be introduced in the Senate, be assured I will strongly oppose it.
Your letter was very informative and you are to be commended for speaking out on this matter. Please be assured that I will share your concerns with my colleagues in the State Legislature.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Your concerns and interests are of utmost importance to me and I ask that you never hesitate to contact me if I may be of assistance with any matter.
I thought this was a pretty fast response to my email. (I'm still waiting to hear back from him on another matter I wrote him about in November.) I'm glad to hear that he's opposed to the pay raise, but he said nothing about reform. I also don't remember his past letters being so effusive.
Anyway, here's my reportback AND my very first diary! |
