In the race to replace Kirsten Gillibrand, Assemblyman Jim Tedisco has ended the day with a 17-vote lead over Democrat Scott Murphy, state and county elections officials said.
The overall tally is now Tedisco 77,035; Murphy 77,018.
The "lead," as the recanvassed numbers come in, has gone back and forth: the final tally as of yesterday had Murphy ahead by 83 votes. Apparently, officials at the Saratoga County Board of Elections reported an incorrect tally to the state board yesterday, resulting in the change. A spokesman for the state board said the numbers changed overnight.
(Diane Wade, Republican Commissioner of the Saratoga County Board of Elections, granting a rare phone interview amid the deluge of requests I and others have been calling with, said that a disrepancy "was discovered in the recanvass on Friday, and didn't get entered correctly into the computer until this morning.")
This should leave only Greene County left to report their new numbers after a machine recanvass. Tedisco beat Murphy by 10 points on election day in Greene County, 5,469 to 4,409.
