This could be some of the best prime time television, um, ever.

Well done, ladies. We are not worthy...

How did this get by the censors? (4.00 / 2)
When Ana Marie Cox held a straight face and said, "Who wouldn't want to teabag John McCain?" she showed superlative comedic skills.

Hey, Ana is my old editor. She's extremely bright, and seems to be slowly mastering TV as well. I'm glad she's been moving back away from some of the more pointless material she drifted into when popularizing herself at Wonkette, and using her satirical skills for Good instead of Evil again...

great stuff. I loved her at suck.com

Did you work with Ana at Suck.com? (0.00 / 0)
And did you know my old friend Matt Beer?

[ Parent ]
Yes, at Suck.com (0.00 / 0)
I started out as a writer for ZeroBaud, the Suck section which Ana was brought in to edit. Eventually they folded this into the main site, and I wound up writing a lot of "dailies" and also Hit & Runs.

I almost never met any of the other people at Suck, since most of the writers were spread out around the country. I only ever met Joey and Ana (whom I knew before she went there, when she was dating my friend and fellow zinester Paul Lukas, now with ESPN), plus the writers who I introduced Ana to when she was looking for more contributors. But we all felt like we knew each other, since Suck had a very active private listserv for discussing story ideas.

Ana was a gifted editor -- I can re-read some of my own pieces and spot which clever bits she inserted. She was also good at condensing/clarifying/reorganizing her writers' pieces. I was dismayed for a while when she started Wonkette and seemed to be really trivializing her own talents and interests. Now she seems to be finding her own again.

(NOTE: I'm completely retired from that variety of writing, and have been for ~10 years.)

Are there just no Republicans under 50 years old? (0.00 / 0)
How did they not think this through?

Also (0.00 / 0)
having it branded as a Fox News sponsored thing is probably the worst thing that could have happened to the teabaggers, because it guarantees that it will receive half or less of the coverage in all other media than it would have otherwise.

[ Parent ]
Hey, sorry I couldn't make it to your (4.00 / 2)
teabagging party.  I know how much you were looking forward to the whole thing.  But really, I've got better things to do.  But thanks again for the invite!

Media manipulation (0.00 / 0)
It sure is funny to hear the right talking about teabagging, but it's also interesting in a way - I was just listening to an episode of The Joan Kenley Show (progressive Bay Area podcast) called The Media: What's True, What's Not that addressed how the right-wing corporate media will use catch phrases (like "socialism") and single-line branding to manipulate the information we hear.  After getting in touch with all the ways that's worked for them, it's kinda nice to see this entry about a way it clearly is working against them, both in their unfortunate titling, and because we now all know without a doubt where Fox News stands.
