| Mondello's e-mail is upbeat, with no mention of Jim Tedisco's stunning loss to Scott Murphy in the NY-20 special election this year and the GOP's even-more-stunning loss of the state Senate majority for the first time in 40-plus years in 2008.
It's all about the great dinner/fund-raiser and those wonderful Tea Parties -- the headline is "Republican Dinners, Tea Parties Build Party Optimism":
The recent New York Republican State Dinner and the nationwide Tea Parties protesting the outrageous tax and spend policies of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are fueling Republicans statewide as we look to the important local elections of 2009 and the critical 2010 elections.
Newt Gingrich wowed more than 800 attendees at the Annual State Dinner as he laid out specific proposals for the future of the party and real solutions to the problems that our nation faces. Other inspiring speakers included former Governor George Pataki, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos and newly elected Assembly Republican Leader Brian Kolb.
Over 2000 Tea Parties were held recently across the country as tens of thousands of individuals, Republicans and Democrats, old and young, voiced their opposition to the excessive taxes and out of control spending.
These events are driving Republican's everywhere to get active. You can get involved by volunteering with your County Republican Committee. To find out where to reach your County GOP, go to our website at www.nygop.org.
The energy is starting to build as we approach these upcoming elections so donate, volunteer and get involved any way you can!
Gee, I thought the Tea Parties were non-partisan, spontaneous expressions of the will of the real (i.e., white) people.
Maybe, just maybe, they were really set up by anti-Obama Republicans, and promoted by their media allies at Fox News and on talk radio.
It sure seems like Mondello is making common cause with the teabaggers' "opposition to the excessive taxes and out of control spending," complete with a photo of them in the e-mail.
The dinner's main speaker, notionally a "big idea" guy, is also trying to get on the pathetic Tea Party bandwagon. Gingrich believes we should rename Independence Day "American Freedom Day" this year, and ruin many people's long-weekend holiday plans with another series of "non-partisan, spontaneous" protests.
It's not clear that Gingrich spoke about that "big idea" to the Manhattan GOP moneybags he hopes will back him for President in 2012.
For Kool-Aid coverage of Gingrich's speech, the state GOP website provides the Tweets of a third-year law student at a third-tier school who clearly hopes to be on Mondello's payroll in a few months (if she's not there already).
Newt Gingrich takes the stage... to yet another standing ovation. The applause is thunderous!
Gingrich's mastery of the bold, honest truth is so refreshing.
Really wish I had more then 140 char. to tweet abt Gingrich's speech. He is only half way through and a million words would be inadequate.
Gingrich: Instead of bureaucratic trickle down, let's have people who work for a living keep their money, create jobs & invest.
Fave note: One reason to get rid of the death tax - it is morally reprehensible to require som1 to see the undertaker and IRS the same day.
Gingrich noted that a lot of his key points can be found on American Solution's website. Go check it out now!
As Newt Gingrich leaves the stage, all I can think is - Wow! Such a powerful & inspiring speaker!! No wonder so many follow his tweets. Lol.
All I can think is, they know how to use Twitter, but not how to look ridiculous when they do.
That I received Mondello's e-mail on the same day Arlen Specter gave up on the Republicans as too far-right, even for him, is a telling coincidence.
New York Republicans have been, with a few exceptions, relatively moderate.
Because they know that what works well politically in Alabama does not work at all in, say, Mondello's Nassau County.
And that New York voters also know that their relatively higher taxes provide for relatively better public services than, say, in Alabama.
And they are generally OK with that -- re-electing 95-plus-percent of legislative incumbents and approving 95-plus-percent of local school budgets.
Mondello now evidently thinks that Gingrich/Tea Party anti-government populism will lead his party out of the wilderness.
Mondello and the NY Republicans are in their deepest hole ever, and their plan is to keep digging.
All I can say is, can I give you a shovel? |
