Another secession update

I get a good laugh out of Gov. Perry in Texas (0.00 / 0)

Wanting to secede and than begging for hurricane help, swine flu help, flood help and any other Fed handout and response you can think of.  As for LI seceding from NY, I have long favored Statehood for LI, it will never happen but we are politically taken advantage of by NYC.  NYC, LI and Upstate should become three states but it will never happen.  I just wish they would build a LI Bridge to CT so I can drie off the Island without crossing NYC territory.

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

By all means advance our regional interests.  But succession-talk is mostly melodrama, and hatches no solutions to actual issues.

...you'd oppose Upstate secession with your last ounce of strength.  The people talking this garbage are the "ZOMG Sarah Palin Rawks!" people who live in the more secluded locations where there are more cows than people.  Last I was in the Camden area, for example, I thought I had been beamed, car and all, to the redneckiest place in Dixie.  Believe me, you do NOT want those people in charge of your shiny new Upper New York state government at the new capital in Watertown or someplace (because I'd guess the new state line will fall somewhere west of Albany), nor do you want six or eight John McHugh's (or worse) representing you in not just one, but both houses of Congress.

The day this happens is the day my house goes on the market.  I will not live in Upper New York; the rednecks can have it.

I wonder if the secessionists have thought much about the fact that they will be pissing away their Social Security and Medicare benefits?  And they won't have any Federal help with airports and roads and bridges.  And no Postal Service, either....
