A poster named NGD made an interesting connection on the blog, Room 8 (4.00 / 1)

(S)He notes that Tom Golisano, Steve Pigeon, Dean Skelos, Pedro Espada and Hiram Monserrate began discussions on how to overthrow Malcolm Smith's majority back in May. And that at the very same time, a small Queens neighborhood paper reported that Hiram Montserrate (facing jail-time for slashing his girlfriend's face) had just traded up on defense attorneys, going from a local storefront lawyer to a guy who represented Michael Jackson and gets $750/hour for his services.

I would venture a guess that this whole coup-business with Monserrate has a lot to do with his upcoming slashed-girlfriend trial. The guy's an ex cop and so has an extra big reason to stay outta the slammer (his life may depend on it). I wonder what the Dems can promise that trumps Golisano's $$$? Smirk.

Monserrate had a "legal defense fund." (0.00 / 0)

Says the New York Post: Monserrate tried soliciting quid pro quo donations from a lobbyists to offset his growing legal bills. Word leaked out back in April and he got in the hotseat with Senate leaders. THEN he hires the $750/hour attorney. What do YOU think he was talking to Pigeon and Golisano about, his wish to pass vacancy decontrol?
