Why Your Representative Should Vote Against The War Supplemental

by: robert.harding

Tue Jun 16, 2009 at 11:52:43 AM EDT

Today, Jane Hamsher of FireDogLake was on C-Span's Washington Journal discussing the war supplemental. I wrote about this last night, but Jane explains the war supplemental vote in great detail and puts it in the proper context.

The fight here is centered on IMF funding ($108 billion) that President Barack Obama first pledged on a trip to Europe. That IMF funding has been included in the war supplemental. This has created an interesting marriage between Republicans, who oppose this, and progressives, who also oppose this.

Call your representative and ask them where they stand on the supplemental. Ask where they stand, while also telling them that we shouldn't be bailing out European banks while nearly 50 million people in this country are living without health insurance.

Call your representative right now.

For Maloney supporters... (0.00 / 0)
Where does Rep. Carolyn Maloney stand on the supplemental vote coming up? Will she honor her 2007 pledge to vote against any war funding without timelines? Or does her word mean nothing?

Give her a call... Jane Hamsher and Firedoglake want to know.(Me too)

(202) 225-7944

She voted for it (0.00 / 0)
which doesn't make a lick of sense to me at all.

Gillibrand will almost certainly vote for it too, but Maloney could have voted no without it failing and could have used this against Gillibrand...wtf is she thinking.

Now if Reid secures enough votes in the Senate to pass it and Gillibrand votes no...oh boy!

Where is Congressman Hall on this? (4.00 / 1)
If you are a constituent, please call Congressman John Hall (202) 225-5441.  I have no idea why he is not on Jane Hamsher's list. I've posted 3 times to Firedoglake asking this question.

He refuses so far to commit, but that is just why people should be calling - his DC office said they are getting only a few calls on this.

He ran on getting out of Iraq - we need to let him know that is still a top priority.
