 This is truly extraordinary. The idea was simple enough, to support financially those Reps who had the guts to take the pledge to support a public option in any health care reform bill. There's been plenty of sticks deployed this summer and this was an effort to brandish some carrots as well. The original goal was to raise $100,000 for those who have stuck to their guns in the face of the most ridiculous summer of crazy ever. Well, we blew by that goal in a little over 24 hours. The goal was then raised to $150K. We met that one too. Then it was raised to $250K. That's not chicken feed and is really starting to get into the "people start paying attention" arena. We passed $200K about an hour ago and as of right this minute, over 3,100 donors have given over $210,000 to support those Congresscritters who are willing to stand with us (a list that includes 8 NY Reps, btw) on the public option. The goal has now been raised to $350K.
If we can hit that, and this train seems to be well on its way to doing just that, that will certainly raise some eyebrows. Reps like Massa and Weiner and Serrano and Nadler and Hinchey and all the rest are standing firm. The very least we can do is stand with them. If you haven't yet dropped some coin in the bucket, please do.
This is pretty historic. Get in on the ground floor, folks.
