Go Read Massa

You should really go read Eric Massa's excellent post at Daily Kos, Global Warming and People-Powered Politics. Here's a taste:

We need representatives in Congress who will take the lead on these issues whether we have a president who does or not.  If the current trends continue, this will probably be a priority for the next US president.  But an important part of people-powered politics is finding those who will lead and who will hold others accountable when they fail to lead properly.  Sometimes corporate interests, and their paid shills in the congress or the White House or elsewhere, will try to deceive us about the challenges and possibilities.  We need to be ever watchful and always willing to speak truth to power.  Only by studying and carefully sorting through what we read and hear can we recognize where the truth lies.  It is in the interests of the people, through true people-powered politics, that we can achieve the results that we need, results-oriented responses to global climate change that simultaneously provide jobs for the future.

Seriously, go read the whole thing.

Smart Growth Too (4.00 / 2)
my comment on kos:

As a part-time Fairport resident, I can't wait to have you represent us in Congress.

In addition to your great ideas, might I also encourage you to speak up for policies that curb our sprawling development, and instead advocate for walkable, "smart growth" that is transportation-oriented in nature.

Clean fuels are a start, but until zero-emissions becomes a reality, public transportation is just a more effective and environmental choice. The 29th is certainly rural, but perhaps you could talk about job shuttle programs of the type that John Olver (MA-01) has implemented in Western Mass.

Thanks for posting, we've got your back, Mr. Massa!

p.s. can we get some Massa posts on TAP? :)

Arcuri on Transportation Committee (4.00 / 1)
I have already seen Mike Arcuri, who is on the House Transportation Committee, working with Maurice Hinchey to improve transportation/smart growth options for NYS.  I think that once Massa is representing the adjoinging district, we will really see some big progress made in the areas of inter-city passenger rail, investment in green transportation infrastructure, and smart-growth, conservation-oriented programs.  Upstate has SO much to gain from electing Dems to the House!
