Guess who makes $8615 a day

Citizen Action of New York gathered in front of the Blue Cross Building in Buffalo, Friday, to educate the public about the heath care Public Option currently being fogged over by skewed public discourse.

Blue Cross was such a perfect venue that I could resist participating.

Alphonso O'Neill-White, the CEO of Health Now (Blue Cross of Western NY is a division of Health Now), took home $2.24 million last year (2007), up from $1.28 million in 2006. That includes $1.95 million in cash, consisting of a $732,000 salary, a $515,625 bonus, and long-term payouts for 2004 through 2006 of $701,195. Buffalo News (June 15, 2008)

This year, my health insurance (and probably yours too, if you have it) went up over $100 a month, so Alphonso could take home over $8000 a day. There something wrong seriously wrong with this, don't you agree?

The Public Option will cost us approximately $1 trillion over the next ten years. Citizen Action estimates the cost of doing nothing (letting Alphonso continue in his evil ways) will be $38 trillion over the next ten years.

Status Quo! (4.00 / 1)
It is imperative that we maintain the status quo.  As an upper middle class western New Yorker, I feel it is my obligation, if not a fiduciary duty, to ensure that Buffalonian health insurance executives make a salary that is as high as humanly possible, but at the very least 5300% higher than the median income in the Buffalo Metro.

And tough shit to whomever on BCBS of WNY was denied coverage or treatment, or maxed out their lifetime policy limit.  Alphonso O'Neill-White has to eat!

You will certainly enjoy more of the Buffalo News article then.

Blue Cross two top deputies, Executive Vice President of Operations Cheryl Howe and former Chief Financial Officer James H. Dickerson Jr., each received about $1 million, up from $634,814 and $623,809, respectively. Both got long-term payouts and bonuses.

Additionally, the company's 10-member board of directors earned a total of $413,000 for the year, ranging individually from $31,750 for Frank B. Mesiah to $64,250 for Chairman Thomas J. Murrer.

Former executives Alden F. Schutte, James A. Cardone, Thomas P. Hartnett, and Dr. John Gillespie were paid $349,235, $247,085, $232,137, and $187,636, respectively. The company also donated $142,000 each to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Buffalo Bills.

I am also an upper class and highly educated citizan of Delmar and I want these guys to suffer for the problems they bring to our other citizans.   Not the ones like me who have lots of money (my husband works for the Government with good pay and benifits) but those who were not able to acheve like me and my dear husband.  Those are the ones there going to have to look in the eye and explin why there kids dont' have the food needed to make them healthy.

Sometimes a nonprofit corporation is really a for profit corp to benefit a few (0.00 / 0)
Alphonso O'Neill-White works for HealthNow which is a not for profit corporation and has the benefits that go with that status. Obviously Mr. O'Neill-White is taking the profits from the enterprise. NYS should enact law that would remove not-or profit status from any corporation that pays an employee or contract employee more than $250,000.

Health Now is being run for the benefit of it's top employees rather than the community minded goals it was organized to benefit.

It's Board of Directors should also be removed for dereliction of duty.

This would also include the hospitals operated by Not for profit Kalieda and ECMC where a mutual fund salesman with a bachelors degree and is a crony of Joel Giambra and had no managment experience is pulling down almost $500,000 as chief administrator.
