The polls have closed in the hotly contested Democratic Mayoral Primary in Albany.  The Albany County Board of Elections has begun to post online the first unofficial results of the race.

As of 9:44 p.m., with 44 of 153 (29%) of machines reporting:

Gerald D Jennings (inc) --  2,537-- (58%)
Corey L Ellis -- 1,778 -- (42%)

The Siena Poll released days earlier showed Jennings a full 21 percentage points ahead.  He is currently 16 unofficial points ahead.

Stay tuned...

Update 10:05

As of 10:02 p.m., with 88 of 153 (58%) of machines reporting:

In Buffalo, (4.00 / 1)
Mayor Brown has been re-elected. Its 58-42 with 76% in. He faces no general election opponents.

I think we have our answer. (0.00 / 0)
10 points with only 26% of the vote left means Ellis needs to win that 68-32 or better.

Jennings has given the same answer (0.00 / 0)
He's already declared victory just a short while earlier.

Across the river (0.00 / 0)
Rensselaer County results can be found here.

Key race for me was the one for Family Court Judge. Three good candidates. Richard Hanft, a solid democrat, had been appointed to replace the retired Linda Griffin, and had the Democratic Party backing. Geri Pomerantz had the WFP backing but my personal friend and one-time family attorney several years back, Beth Walsh, came out with a huge victory over them both in both the Democratic and WFP primaries. We were very lucky to have three solid candidates and would have been in good hands with any of the three but I am pleased as punch tonight for my good friend Beth Walsh.

Ellis gave Jennings a solid challenge (4.00 / 1)
shame that Jennings won again. Bad news for the City of Albany.

Good news for Albany is (4.00 / 1)
that Jennings personal treasurer Betty Barnette was defeated so the city now has an independent treasurer in Kathy Sheehan. Very Good news.

Sadly, Phil Steck's spite-candidate Leif Engstrom defeated my good friend Darius Shahinfar in an incredibly close race for Auditor. I guess the mud and smear from Steck's camp worked. Sad to see so-called progressives engage in that kind of crap. Very low class. Darius is too classy a guy to engage them with the same or even advertise the truth about Steck's spitefulness. Me... I'm not so nice but I kept my mouth shut until after the election because I knew Darius wouldn't approve of me telling it like it is.

Also good news is Carolyn McLaughlin as Common Council President. Jennings may have won but he loses ground every election. One of these days Albany will rid itself of the remaining corruption.

Next up is our town caucus on Friday. Lucky me and my town the Republicans are running a convicted felon for his old job again. How they figure that is a good thing for the town is beyond me. We've got a great candidate in his replacement that has done a fantastic job since taking over. Should be fun putting an end to this nonsense once and for all.

Peace,

Andrew

Good to see you (4.00 / 1)
And of note, in all my running around Albany the past couple days, I actually saw more of Darius than I did of Ellis!

Both are deserving of a place in our local government.  If they both keep on working, they will earn it someday with our help.

You know what I always say at this point...

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

It's not over quite yet (4.00 / 2)
Ellis' final vote count is impressive and if I was him, I'd go for the repeat like his upset for the Ward seat. Run the WFP line. Jennings simply needs to go.

Same with Gucker in Ward 11. No ward should go represented by Anton Konev.

And as for Darius and Engstrom, it's simply too close to say who won. 225 vote difference without the possible 1100 absentees? Don't count Darius out!

Thanks for the absentee number (0.00 / 0)
I didn't know how many there were. I haven't been involved in this race as I have my own town races to take care of consequently I have no way of knowing how the absentees will turn out.

Here's hoping they come in strong for Darius!
