Rudy: All Class...

"America's Mayor" once again reveals himself to be a tactless prick. I've always known this, but this story from Iowa (via Rochester Turning) has left me stunned.

Giuliani Snubs Jones County

Last weekend Deb and Jerry VonSprecken of Olin received a call from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's campaign office asking them if they would be interested in holding a campaign rally on May 4, after she had donated to his campaign.

"We thought it would be an honor and agreed," said Jerry.

...

On Tuesday Deb received a call from Giuliani's Des Monies office and was asked to call New York.

"They wanted to know our assets," she revealed, and added that she and Jerry have a modest 80 acre farm and raise cattle.

Later she received a call from Tony Delgado at the Des Monies location.

"Tony said, `I'm sorry, you aren't worth a million dollars and he is campaigning on the Death Tax right now.' then he said they weren't going to be able to come," Deb continued.

Nice going, Rudy. That's gonna go over real well in Iowa, pal.

"I invited him into my home," Deb said of Giuliani, fighting back tears.

Thanks so much for reinforcing all those "New Yorkers are assholes" sterotypes, Mr. Mayor.

What an ass.

it is kinda funny though (0.00 / 0)
that he is searching for the mythical family farmer wronged by the "death tax" and having such difficulty. why is he having so much trouble? because the whole notion is essentially bullshit, that's why.

idiot.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

You would know.... (0.00 / 1)
Your comments do nothing to promote a substantive discussion of politics, instead it seems that you enjoy the opportunity to excoriate public figures with expletitives.

More than anything, your post truly demonstrates the fact that you are more interested in being provocative and offensive, then promoting an actual dialogue.

If this post is emblematic of the type of conversation that this website seeks to promote, then it is a poor reflection of the type of reform that this website seeks to promote.

You sort of hit the nail on the head (0.00 / 1)
Lipris is an "angry advocate." He has valid and important positions on many serious issues, but is often quick out of the gate to judge and degrade others. If you disagree it becomes somewhat of a school yard bully fight. Unfortunately, as a result, people who would be more active are turned off.

I have not read the blog recently (for this reason), so I must profess some ignorance here, but when I was a "regular" there was minimal voicing of different opinions. Sure there was some superficial disagreements, but not true debate in any capacity. If you disagree the pitbulls were sent out upon you (often name calling by Lipris).

The motto of this site should really not be "This belongs to you. Take it back..." It should be something like "All Republicans Should Die. They Cause Cancer and Are Directly To Blame For the Irish Potato Famine And Diabetes. If You Are Not With Us You Must Be A Republican And Should Read Sentence One. Spitzer Knows All, But On Occasion We will Disagree But Let It Slide. Now Take It Back..."

OK - That was harsh, but when one wants to reform one should reach out to people with different views and find common ground. Don't alienate those people because they disagree or even if they do, don't label them because of their party affiliation.

Spitzer shouldn't bundle and have rich folks pay for access. The LLC campaign donations are wrong, but its hard to hear from Spitzer who benefited from it to get where he is. Craig Johnson is forever a "yes" man and that is not a good thing Bruno is more than misguided and needs a swift kick in the rear. Spitzer's education plan is wrong for folks outside of NYC, but he is right on healthcare. I am a former NYC guy and got no major beef with Gulianni. NYBri, albeit an intelligent guy not from my district, may have lost merely because he was not as good of a candidate as Saland (what a concept!). Hall won on the anti-republican wave and beat a wimpy candidate. Gillibrand deserved her victory and  was a better candidate. Hopefully she continues with her success. Point here...I am a Dem, but I look at individuals and don't merely sit in judgment from behind a computer screen. I vote republican, I vote democrat, heck...I vote for whomever the best candidate is.

WOW - I digressed, but Devil's Advocate - sadly you are right.

I think you're being too hard on Lipris (4.00 / 1)
I mean- I don't think we need a nuanced, well-documented critique when we're talking about someone like Rudy- we're all familiar with his asshole personality and when he makes a public stumble, we should be there to punce on him just like the bully he was while he was mayor of NYC.  There is a lot to be said for fighting fire with fire.

Nuance has its place, and that place is policy, and htere are a lot of good policy postings on this site.  But when we're talking about Ru-dolf, bare knuckles are fine with me.

Huh! Isn't that strange. . . . (4.00 / 1)
It seems to me like there's been no talk about a "loss of civility" or any of the other memes going around right now in the last twenty years while Rush and the Righties accused anyone on the Left of being a Communist or charged that gays were destroying our country.  Suddenly now that the Republican machine has been stopped (largely by the activism of the blogging community, at whom the charge is being leveled), we hear all about how we all want to "just get along."

I realize some of the comments here are from stated Democrats, but it seems like we've been caught up in another Conservative Spin Machine game.  Rush, Coulter and the rest of the Katzenjammer Kids got twenty years to talk out their ass - hell, Ann Coulter just flat out made stuff up - but now the Liberals all need to shut up because it's destructive.

Don't buy into it.

People are smart enough to make up their own minds about their political beliefs; what many people crave is less about making up their minds and more about being able to state their opinions somewhere that they can be reciprocated.  And yeah, that means bitching a lot of the time.

Watching from just above the water line. . . .

You're underestimating the necessity of rapid response (0.00 / 0)
Two words:

Dukakis

Kerry

Nuff' said.

perhaps it's your coffee? (4.00 / 1)
seriously. it seems all you ever do is complain.

cry me a river, why don't ya?

Lipris = ignorance (0.00 / 0)
I think you made Devil Advocate's and Axtimmons' point. If you disagree with me then I will call you names or insult you. This blog had so much potential. Instead, its the same 10 or so people who are active (not saying there are not others who post). Inside this bubble, Lipris is king, NYBri is a god (no, your the best...no your the best) who was a dime a dozen candidate who lost and election and still has refused to respond to Axtimmons' education posting.

Inside this bubble Lipris posts various posts merely to be seen or heard whether they are relevant to anything involving politics. Maybe a politician throws this site a bone giving lip service to how it helped a particular candidate or position. Unfortunately, its just lip service (not Lipris). Lipris, get out, meet a girl, lose the anger. Just get away from the computer, man (I hear the Adirondacks are nice this time of year, but I guess that is to close to Bruno country)...its just a blog of like minded people who have their hands over their eyes and ears. Sadly, it is not a blog for reform.

BTW (0.00 / 0)
Lipris- I can read you like a book. Either you are going to respond with the name calling and prove my point or not respond at all. You figure if you do respond, then I am right. If you don't respond, then you'll show me. Either way, you are biting your lip, getting a "little" angry, and blindly singing allegiance to the King Spitzer (who really wasted tax payer dollars over this Grasso fiasco - some steamroller). What's it gonna' Lipris? (I actually, wanted to call you "Limpris" with some juvenille humor, but I thought I would be too much like you!).

[ Parent ]
different strokes, kiddo. (4.00 / 1)
maybe there is a site out there more to your liking. if there isn't, perhaps you should start one.

it's easy.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

Barrett's current work also a revealing read on Rudy. (0.00 / 0)
The current Voice article by Wayne Barrett also provides a revealing glimpse into Rudy's wily ways...
