NY-23: Teabaggers rally for Hoffman UPDATED Palin endorses

by: devtob

Thu Oct 22, 2009 at 20:55:37 PM EDT

UPDATE -- With her finger to the teabagging wind, Sarah Palin endorsed Hoffman today. Leaked first to the Weekly Standard, naturally.

"Tea Party Patriots" are planning to be field volunteers for Conservative Doug Hoffman, who is running against Republican Dede Scozzafava and Democrat Bill Owens to replace John McHugh in NY-23.

The Albany area teabaggers' message boards are full of disgust for Scozzafava, a six-term Assemblywoman who is moderate on some social and labor issues.

And, along with North Country and other nearby teabaggers, they will be putting some hundreds of boots on the ground for Hoffman between now and Election Day.

A Wall Street Journal article last week noted that the teabaggers are "waging war" on moderate candidates like Scozzafava.

And indeed, there is some martial teabagger rhetoric, below.

At the Albany 912 site, home to local Glenn Beck cultists, one of them passed along an e-mail from the Hoffman campaign encouraging teabaggers to get involved in NY-23:

North Country Patriots,

The stakes were raised considerably today (Wednesday). We need to redouble our efforts.

In case any of you missed it, Doug Hoffman was interviewed by Glenn Beck today. He was mentioned on Rush Limbaugh. He was endorsed by Mark Levin.

Get ready Patriots. A battle is a-coming.

We should be encouraged by the media we received today. But we must also be wary of what's to come.

The liberals know how important this battle is. They are sending volunteers. They are dumping money. They will soon be attacking Doug.

We can win, but it won't be handed to us. We can't relent an inch.

snip

Don't expect anything. This will be a close election. We must stay involved to win.

We're rounding second and heading for the home stretch. Keep sprinting. Keep making calls. Keep delivering Doug Hoffman campaign brochures. This is too important nationally to let this slip through our fingers.

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Enjoy the battle and stay involved.

Godspeed,

Yates Walker
Regional Director of Doug Hoffman for Congress, Plattsburgh HQ

Googling Yates Walker is interesting -- he's evidently a GOP operative from Georgia who been working all year to rally the teabaggers, in one way or another.

Before they saw this e-mail, local teabaggers were already planning to head two hours north for some field work:

For those interested in coordinating Hoffman volunteer efforts be sure to attend the Liberty Council Meet and Greet this Friday at 7:00 (126 State St. Albany).  There have been a few people from the Liberty Council in contact with the Hoffman campaign and one will be heading up a table that night to sign up volunteers and coordinate what the campaign needs. They are working out the best date/location for a carvan of volunteers, along with phone bank information.

More about the "battle" in NY-23 from another:

Here's a chance for another "Shot Heard Round the World"!

This morning the Tea Party people were "dissed" hard on This Week with George Stephanopoulos on ABC.

Watch the last 6 minutes of this link. http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8856259

Ouch!

We need to get Tea Party people nationally to flood Hoffman's coffers and volunteer!

Let's use the leverage of our national movement to crush the RINO as well as the Democrat.

Do you think as local activists we could do so, and get another victory under our belts?

Are we up for the challenge, to stand with a candidate who has principles?

snip

Let's help Hoffman win!

Which elicited this reply:

The 23rd district is pretty far from where I live but I hope I can help in some way. It would be pretty cool if one of the first shots comes from this area and through the efforts of our patriot groups.

The locals also commented on Kos' endorsement of Scozzafava as another reason to go all out for Hoffman.

Like this:

Kos has no scruples or principals, but as far as I can tell there's not much that separates them from Scazzafava anways so why wouldn't they endorse her? She's also been endorsed by ACORN.  She was chosen by the GOP because of her ability to self-finance and bring in some Pataki dollars.

snip

No a surprise, but our friends at the Daily kos have endorsed Scassafava. We have to do everything in our power to get Hoffman elected!!

Bill Owens is not perfect, but there is little evidence that he would, as Kos implied, become an "obnoxious Blue Dog" and/or LieberDem if elected.

Owens needs the support of people interested in electing less-than-perfect Democrats in longtime Republican districts.

If for no other reason than that he could well lose to a teabagging wingnut in a three-way race.

Please help out, in whatever way you can.

There is an election in 12 days, (4.00 / 2)
and Monserrate will not be on the ballot.

Not too surprisingly, you miss the point. (0.00 / 0)
When a Republican is seem as more liberal than the Democrat, in a conservative district, the Republicans have tsauris.  The State Republican Party is well in back of the people they are supposed to be leading.  This is the only advantage the Democrats enjoy for 2010.

Sheesh (4.00 / 2)
"This is the only advantage the Democrats enjoy for 2010."

We've got some work ahead of us.
