| The special election in NY-23, like the spring's special election in NY-20, has been heralded as nationally significant, in ways that other special elections this year have not.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand helped Scott Murphy win NY-20, with political and fund-raising advice, a TV ad, and several appearances.
And she will be helping NY-23 Democratic candidate Bill Owens tomorrow with an appearance at Tug Hill Vineyards in Lowville, in the western part of this sprawling district.
Details, below. |
| Gillibrand and Owens will tour Tug Hill Vineyards beginning at 1:15 p.m. Friday, with a press availability right after the tour.
According to a press release from the Owens campaign, Gillibrand and Owens will
meet the owners, tour the vineyard, and discuss agricultural policy. Senator Gillibrand, the first New York senator to sit on the Agriculture Committee in nearly 40 years, will highlight why Bill Owens is the right candidate to help rebuild America's economy and create jobs in the North Country. The vineyard, which opened two years ago and recently expanded to include a wine-making facility, is part of Owens' ongoing upstate jobs tour of local small businesses, highlighting his commitment to job creation.
Gillibrand, in the House and now in the Senate, has been a champion of NY agriculture, which is a major, mostly family-owned upstate industry whose jobs cannot be outsourced to China.
Owens is smart to emphasize his commitment to jobs in his district, in agriculture and other industries. Similar emphases by Gillibrand and Murphy helped them win in NY-20.
NY-23 is significant because it can, like NY-20, be a strongly Republican-by-registration district that sends a Democrat to Congress.
Gillibrand is working hard to make that happen; you all can help out here. |
