Massa's "no" vote is not because the bill does too much; it's because it does to little. So in that sense, it is courageous even though it may be counterproductive and we may not agree with it.

"At the highest level, this bill will enshrine in law the monopolistic powers of the private health insurance industry, period. There's really no other way to look at it. I believe the private health insurance industry is part of the problem," Massa said.

"This bill also, I believe, fails to address the fundamental question before the American people, and that is how do we control the costs of health care. It does not address interstate portability, as Medicare does. It does not address real medical malpractice insurance reform. It does not address the incredible waste and fraud that are currently in the system," he said.

His arguments are phoney baloney - a mix of republican talking points and weak excuses.  He's trying to pretend to the left that he's really truly with us, while using arguments and voting like a right-winger.  The bill delivers enormous benefits to his district.  He can pretend all he wants that he's doing it for the sake of his constituents, but on this issue he's with the insurance companies, US chamber of commerce and the teabaggers.  His holier than thou tone is also just absurd.

I remember when he was running.  He didn't exactly highlight that he'd vote against us.  Quite the opposite - I remember a whole lot of talk about how important health care reform was.  What a fraud.
