Getting Started at the Albany Project

Why.

What do you do when the latest poll puts you trailing your rival by 60 points in a hypothetical matchup?

Parrot a GOP talking point, of course.

"I would prefer that U.S. government not be trying the terrorists in New York City.

"I think it raises the threat in our area . . . There had to be some place to hold these trials that I think would have been safer."

I guess anything to alter the results on a Google News search for "David Paterson" these days...

Squawk! (4.00 / 2)
Why, Eliot?  Why?  We voted for you, not this clown.  You could have cleaned up Albany and everything would have been hunky-dory by now, but no.

Screw trying to get Hillary to run for governor.  I want Bill.  Bill knows what he's doing.  Bill has already shown that he can get the job done.  Let's draft Bill Clinton for governor.

Cuomo's a better bet (4.00 / 1)
With all due respect, we really don't need another guy who is going to have a side-ladies problem, and Bill can't really be trusted in that department.

Cuomo is on-track.  When I saw him speak in July or so, I was thinking he was much more on top of his game than the last time he tried.  His work as AG has been spectacular.  No need for guys who would rather be globe-hopping doing development work.

Unlike Spitzer, Bill didn't do anything illegal. (4.00 / 1)

Still... (0.00 / 0)
It is important that people see our new NYS leaders as "clean," and that is a hard sell in USA for philanderers.  This ain't France.  Not necessarily what I think, but, it is what the voters en masse think.

I don't think it's parroting... (4.00 / 2)
I see it as Paterson being on the wrong side of an issue... again.

This has become a regular thing with him. He tries to play to the middle, but plays away from his base in doing so. This isn't the first issue with him and won't be the last. It's why his poll numbers are in the basement.

He is also.... (4.00 / 1)
...showing himself to not be much of a team player.  It's not his decision to make; not a problem if he disagrees with the Commander in Chief (although he probably does not have the facts to judge with), but he sure should not be siding with the opposition.  Go HOME, David.  It's done.

The makings of a chief executive (4.00 / 1)
Some people got it, some don't.  David Paterson don't.
(Pardon my grammar.)

He has consistently shown an inability to lead, to make decisions and have them carried out when needed, and to compromise when needed.  His appointment of Richard Ravitch notwithstanding, he has done nothing to end the stalemate in his former chamber where he worked personally with just about every one of the 62 members.  (To be fair, neither has Malcolm Smith or John Sampson.)

And while he's fiddling, New York is that close to burning.

Speaking of a lack of leadership, where is Sheldon Silver?  You would think that this would be his chance to be the knight in shining armor, but he seems instead to be screaming, "my kingdom for a horse!"  If the Assembly were to pass a legitimate deficit reduction plan, regardless of what else happens, there would be lots of people calling on him to run for Governor.

A pox on both your houses, Senate and Assembly alike.

While I'm on the subject, if Andrew Cuomo thinks he can just sit this one out, get elected Governor next year, and not have to face a mess the size of the one that Bush left for Obama, he should have another think coming to him.  I realize that managing the budget isn't his job, but if he wants the job any time soon he has incentive to make sure that the job is something other than cleaning up an EPA superfund site.
