"9-11" Guiliani Said To Be Out of the Governor Race

by: robinia

Thu Nov 19, 2009 at 13:51:18 PM EST

So far, I am just seeing it at the NY Times-- but, it appears Rudy has decided not to run for Governor. Clearing the Republican field for Rick Lazio, some Conservative Sarah Palin likes, or, heck, pretty much anybody who lives in NYS, is a Republican and is fool enough to try. If you ran center enough to win, Glenn Beck would call for your head, after all.

Speaking of "fool enough," given the entirely miserable state of the state, do you think that our Democratic candidates may be:
(A) overestimating own abilities
(B) underestimating seriousness of situation
(C) underestimating capacity of our legislature to screw up any plan that has a prayer of working
(D) all of the above

Has he ruled out the Senate? (0.00 / 0)
Roody may have simply calculated that he stands a much better chance against Gillibrand than Cuomo.

Or maybe he still imagines he's Presidential material, and is just praying for some new attack so he can ride to the rescue on his white horse.

Daily News says (0.00 / 0)
he was to run for Senate, then President right away after tbat in 2012.

How the hell dpes he think he's going to get elected on the promise that he;d only serve less than two years and spend the entire time running for President?

Pojo says he's thinking Senate, too (0.00 / 0)

The article also includes a denial from Roody's flack claiming he hasn't completely ruled out a gubernatorial run yet.

That's pretty much what I expected out of Rudy. (0.00 / 0)
Trying to take statewide office in NY as a launching point for another run at the presidency. In my opinion, he's probably even crazy enough to think that he'd possibly be able to win New York.

The irony of course being that Rudy might lose the Republican senate primary to a teabagger, and definitely wouldn't win either the general or the presidency, despite him being one of the sanest guys left in the Republican Party.

Well, I like (0.00 / 0)
the President, but that is essentially what he did . . . .

Going through the state campaigning with a noun, verb and 9/11.

Isn't Lazio "all of the above" for wingnuts? (0.00 / 0)
Anyway, I doubt Little Ricky can beat Andrew Cuomo.  Or even make it a race.

As for Rudy G. running for the Senate, all Sen. Gillibrand has to do is remind people that Hillary Clinton waited until her second term to run for President and ask him if he's pledge to the people of New York State to follow her example.

That said, I'm glad Rudy's not running for governor.  I doubt he'd have won either, but the last thing New York needs right now is a Fox News Republican actually running stuff.  In the Senate, he'd be the lowest ranking member of the minority party, with little power to do much of anything.  It would kind of suck for New York to lose the sort of representation someone with more seniority could offer, but at least he'd be as dangerous as a neutered house cat.

Hannity would beat Cuomo, but (0.00 / 0)
I doubt he would run, new contract with Fox.

Funny (0.00 / 0)
You silly goose.

When he is elected, they (0.00 / 0)
will control at least the House, probably not on the merits but on contempt for incumbents.  I really think Schumer will have trouble, my letter on health care reform had a reply on Burma/Myanmar of all things.  That is the kind of loss of touch that Al Dematto showed in 1998.

Guiliani (0.00 / 0)
Very effective mayor, most of his term, ended badly but saved by a magnificent performance on 9-11.  Made lots of enemies, probably no fire in the belly, based on 2008 Campaign.  Might beat Gillibrand, but probably no political future beyond that.
