Before assuming the majority ALL the committee chairs were Republican. Now with a slender majority, two chairs are given to the Republicans. Increase that majority and they will be gone as well. This is the distasteful part of politics, the art of the possible!

Nah-- or at least, I will believe it when I see it ("it" being what it is that the people get in exchange for giving this influence to industry).  I don't think that a Republican at all needed to be put in charge of the Energy and Telecommunications Committee, and I sure don't think that one so closely-tied to the industry needed to be.  I think that part of the reason that this happened traces back to the coup, and keeping people inclined to blackmail from "acting up."  Trouble with giving blackmailers what they want is, of course, that they just keep wanting more.

That said, perhaps a stronger majority is what is needed.... or, perhaps we need to be sure that, even if we have the same ## of Dem Senators, we don't have dishonorable self-interested individuals like the coup engineers among that number.  Or both.

One committee - Social Services, I believe - was in Carl Kruger's hands.  Of course, calling him a Democrat is ... incomplete.
