Harold Ford Registered To Vote In NY 6 Weeks Ago

Ann Coulter's "favorite Democrat", the Conservadem Tennessean who is being courted by literally dozens of New Yorkers to become their new US Senator, a man who claims who have lived here in the Empire State for over three years, has never cast a vote here. Ever. Why? He just registered to vote in NY on November 23, 2009.

Harold Ford Jr., the former congressman from Tennessee who is considering a Senate run against Kirsten Gillibrand, has reportedly been living in New York for the last three years.

But he only registered to vote here in November of 2009, according to a spokeswoman for the city Board of Elections.

The spokeswoman, Valerie Vasquez, said Ford registered to vote here on November 23, 2009.

Yeah, that'll fly.

UPDATE: Nice catch by an emailer. In an interesting twist, note that Ford registered to vote in NY on November 23rd and that we first saw this ridiculous idea floated in a trial balloon from the de facto go to publication for messaging from people who suck, the Politico, on November 24th.

Coincidence? I think not.

Wow, nothing says interested in your "home state" (4.00 / 2)
than missing three years of election cycles.

Better... as of 2008 he was still voting in Tennessee. (4.00 / 2)

Didn't even cast a vote for his new BFF (4.00 / 2)
Michael Bloomberg did he?

[ Parent ]
Presumably, he was keeping his political (0.00 / 0)
options in TN open by keeping a residence there.

[ Parent ]
probably (0.00 / 0)
as i said yesterday, you could probably put all these folks on a single subway car and have seats to spare.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

How vulgar (4.00 / 1)
I'm sure you meant to say, "in a pair of Rolls Royce limos."

perhaps (4.00 / 1)
i mean, it's not like any of these folks have ever seen the interior of a NYC subway car...

TODAY is day one. It always is.

Now Susan Molinari A Resident of Virginia Wants To Run On The Republican Side (4.00 / 2)
I just read this on SILive (Staten Island Advance).  They have a poll were you can vote 1,000 times and it shows Molinari beating Gillibrand on SI 2 to 1.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former GOP Rep. Susan Molinari is looking at running against Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this year.

Ms. Molinari, 52, who left Congress in 1997 and currently lives in Virginia, said that given the health care debate and the upcoming trials of accused 9/11 terrorists here, "it's an important time to have aggressive leadership in the Senate" in the tradition of Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Alfonse D'Amato and Charles Schumer.

Ms. Molinari said she is being urged to run by her father, former Congressman and Borough President Guy Molinari, and by former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, both of whom called her yesterday.

"This is very early in a conversation I'm having with myself," said Ms. Molinari, who is a senior principal at the Bracewell & Giuliani law firm, where she does government affairs work and lobbying.

Ms. Molinari, a former City Council Minority Leader, said she would decide "sooner rather than later" whether she would make the run.

Guy Molinari said he called his daughter after despairing that no "star candidates" had emerged to take on Ms. Gillibrand.

"All of a sudden I think, the best candidate in the entire country is my daughter," he said. "I told her, 'This country has been very good to us. We have to give something in return.'"

Guy Molinari said that he's touted his daughter to state GOP chairman Edward Cox.

At least Molinari was a New Yorker, and got elected in NY once upon a time. (4.00 / 1)
Both of which are more than you can say for the Ford Explorer.

As For Ford (4.00 / 2)
Did he vote in Tennessee for the 3 years he's lived in NY?  It would be interesting to find this out because this is one of the things that killed Caroline Kennedy.

He voted in Tennessee in 2008, according to voter registration records there. (4.00 / 2)

From Liz Benjamin in the Daily News: (4.00 / 1)
The general feeling about Ford right now in political circles (at least the ones I've touched base with today):

If he can raise some big money (Gillibrand, a prodigious fundraiser, had $4.1 million on hand at the end of September) and withstand the onslaught from her supporters between now and his first big New York political speech at caucus weekend, he might have a pretty good shot at running.

Sez me: The piece indicates that Ford appears to be putting together his team from the Bloomberg/Lieberman roster. Ugh. That aside, Ford'd force Gillibrand to run even more to the left which can only help her down here, and apparently that won't hurt her upstate, where I guess she's very popular (at least judging by this blog). Not sure about the outsider angle, since Gilly is fairly outside too. Identity politics? Running as an AA in NYC is no great shakes these days, it's gonna take more than that for NYC AAs to send a DINO like Ford to the Senate, I don't care how many black Senators there aren't there.

Still, guys like Jerome Armstrong at MyDD tout Ford's campaign prowess and the ability for modern campaigns to put lipstick on pigs -- look what they did for Obama (sorry, I was firmly in the HRC camp and recent events appear to prove me right). I don't buy it in Ford's case unless the NY Dem establishment is completely kaput.

Based on what I read at Kos (4.00 / 1)
I'm not getting the impression African American support is assured. A number of African Americans there have expressed, rather sharply, that Ford is not a hero in the POC community. One suggested it was just a matter of time before Sharpton called him an "Uncle Tom." (Sorry, not my language choice, a member of Black Kos said that.)

Another reader suggested that he was particularly unpopular with African American women, which I'm sure is not unrelated to him having a white, blond wife. This is just want I've been reading... "some say..." so take it for what it is.
