Had the Senate Democrats (0.00 / 0)

elected Schneiderman as majority leader a year ago, the state, and the Senate Democrats, would have been a lot better off now.

But that wasn't gonna happen. Since David Paterson broke the color barrier, AA lawmakers have apparently decided to hold the leadership in a death-grip.

Which might suggest to some that the Iron Law of Institutions is in play: the people who control institutions care first and foremost about their power within the institution rather than the power of the institution itself. Thus, they would rather the institution "fail" while they remain in power within the institution than for the institution to "succeed" if that requires them to lose power within the institution.
